In my wardrobe, I need multi-taskers. I need shoes that can go from the grocery store to the boardroom. I need tops that can be worn solo with jeans or with a suit. And I need dresses that I can wear with sandals to brunch in June and with heels to a meeting in December. This is such a dress.
And did I mention that it’s under-$100? Of course, I did. It’s one of its finest qualities.
The Ellen Ottoman Dress from Boden comes in eight colors, from basic black to this yummy passion fruit shade. I bought this Fiesta orange because it felt different for me. Some of the colors come in petite, all of them appear to come in tall. Sizes run from 0 to 20.
Also, it’s 15% off with code B8Q1. You won’t believe how thick this material is for a dress you’re about to pay less than $90 to own.
I own this dress (a Poshmark purchase) in a discontinued pale blue. I love that I can just throw it on with leopard flats or nude heels or sneakers, and it looks however I wanted it to look. Frankly, you can make this dress appropriate for almost any occasion.
It’s definitely worth a try. And for sizing, I recommend going up one size if you are in-between sizes or bigger on top or bottom. I usually wear a size 6 dress, and at Boden, I buy an 8.

I LOVE the ottoman fabric from Boden and am so glad they’ve brought it back more consistently. I felt like they were using the super-thin jersey for too many of their dresses for a while, and it didn’t seem worth it to me (or to have quite the versatility for office-wear). I have this one in black, and a similar one in navy, plus three other slightly different ones in various colors/necklines, etc.
I second the recommendation for this style from Boden! I recommend ordering from Boden to find out your size, then stalking Poshmark for discounted options. There have been many variants through the years (I prefer the v-neck which was from a few years ago), but they all seem to fit very similarly and are great quality.
