Three Bold Color Combinations for Fall

Over the past few years, my wardrobe has been heavily filled with neutrals.  This season, I find myself craving color.  Front brightly colored pants to vibrant dresses, I am loving it all.  Here are three color combinations that are ready for fall.

Burgundy and mauve is a softer palette that is bold but approachable.  This cardigan and cami combination from Everlane pairs well with the burgundy hues.  I chose this pencil skirt from Talbot’s because I liked the gold details.  For something simpler, this Preston & York pencil skirt is a great option.

When wearing color, I like to keep the pieces unified.  All of the mauve in this look is on top, the shoes and skirt keep the burgundy on the bottom.  It’s an extension of the two-out-of-three rule for pairing skirts with tights and shoes.

For the accessories, I added a taupe bag with a great origami-like pleat and a pair of tortoise sunglasses, and finished it off with a pair of simple earrings.  If the mule high heels aren’t a good choice for you, these t-strap heels from Tuckernuck are a great alternative.

The next combination is baby blue and chestnut.  Mixing the cool blue with the warmer undertones of the chestnut creates an interesting contrast.  These cropped pants from Old Navy are fantastic, but if you want something full length, these Madewell pants (in petite and plus) are a great option.  The coat and sweater bring in that pale, icy blue.  Another option would be a light chambray shirt like this J.Crew chambray shirt or this banded denim shirt from Banana Republic.

Again, I kept the blue on top and the chestnut on bottom for a clean look.  These Quince glove flats pair well with the pants.  For the handbag, I wanted to bring in a softer tan color.  It doesn’t match the brown hue of the pants, but it coordinates seamlessly by picking up the cooler tones from the blue.  Add a pair of mixed-metal hoops to keep the contrasting warm and cool hues going.

Finally, there is a richness to mixing red and chocolate.  For this outfit, I pulled a sleek wrap sweater and paired it with a wide leg pant to balance the look.  I added a pointed toe flat to elongate the leg and continue the look.

This wrap sweater is phenomenal, but it’s a little spendy.  For a similar look for less, I recommend this v-neck, faux-wrap from 1.State.  I also like this tie-neck blouse from Quince.

Thie Brooklyn bag from Coach is one of the hot bags of the fall.  It has a chic slightly-slouchy style and a classic shape.  It’s incredible to see Coach re-emerge from the days of quilted logo prints, when this esteemed brand lost its way for a bit.

Lastly, I added this chic necklace that has been on my wishlist for a while.  Mejuri makes this style in all gold and two-tone, mixed metal option.
