State of the Blog: A Late Night Puppy Emergency

My little Avery started wheezing last night and wouldn’t stop.  She seemed pretty lethargic and uncomfortable by the time I went to put her in her kennel to go to bed.  So when she started dry coughing non-stop, I went into full caretaker-mode and rushed her to the pet emergency room.

And lo, and behold, my little bear had eaten a piece of plastic that became lodged in her throat.

She’s fine now.  Snuggling happily on the bed.  But understandably, I didn’t finish today’s posts.  I’ll be back tomorrow with a capsule wardrobe for the spring office.

xo, Belle

P.S. I love this funny Instagram video of Avery.  Such a happy spirit, I’m so relieved she’s ok.

    So glad Avery is fine!

  2. Erika says:

Phew! I’m glad she’s OK. I have two cats so I know the feeling.
And that video is the cutest!!

  3. Whitney Gibbs says:

Glad Avery’s ok! Would have scared me too.

  4. Erin says:

You scared me there with that image, Belle. I started reading and thought, ‘oh crap, please don’t be a picture of doggy heaven’. Glad she’s on the mend.

  5. Samantha says:

Thank goodness it was an easy problem to resolve! The ultimate truth: nothing will wake you up more quickly than the sound of your puppy coughing (or sounding like they may be throwing up).

  6. BB says:

Glad she’s ok!! More Avery posts 🙂

  7. Allison says:

Do you have pet insurance? I didn’t get it after some bad advice, and it would have saved me about 10K in vet bills over three years. There was never one vet bill that high, but they add up, and you have to have that awful mental conversation of “how much it too much to spend on a pet”, and you have to make a fast decision in an emergency, and it’s an emotional one. Also, I found out that once your pet has a condition insurance won’t cover it, as it’s considered a pre-existing condition. (My cat may need Obama care. ha.) Glad Avery is OK!

  8. Crystal (and Boxer-dog Lily) says:

So glad to hear Avery is okay!

  9. Mrs. Jones says:

I’m so glad she’s ok. Schnauzers are the greatest little dogs.

  10. Jenn S. says:

Glad to hear Avery is okay. Those situations are so scary, and even when they’re okay it can take a day or two to shake the panic.

  11. Richelle says:

So happy to hear that Avery is okay now!

  12. Valerie says:

Feel better, sweet Avery! My sister’s puppy is in a phase where she eats random plastic or metal things off the floor, so I understand the scare.

  13. Nancy says:

What breed is she? She is exactly what I am looking for!

  14. Tech Writer says:

So glad Avery is OK. What a scare. I know what it’s like to have something blow outside normal vet hours and it’s frightening. I foster failed on a kitten who I love so much it’s scary and the little monster is trying to get her paws on every plastic bag she can find. What is it about plastic??

Avery is a beautiful fur bucket. Thanks so much for sharing her with us. She’s a lucky dog.

  15. Brit says:

Glad to hear she’s okay! I’ve had to do pet emergency runs (only two so far – but one was at midnight) and they are no fun!

  16. Lexi says:

Am really glad Avery is ok!!! Thank you for sharing the pictures of her, it’s great getting to watch her grow up, she’s such a cutie.

  17. Amy says:

Belle, i’ve been wondering – what do you do with her during the day? Does she go to doggy daycare?

  18. Trisha says:

Thank goodness the little nugget is OK! I’m so glad.

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
