Two Ways: Ideas for a Chartreuse Sweater

On Monday, I posted about a chartreuse colored sweater that I think is a great addition to a fall, winter, spring wardrobe. But, if you’ve never worn this color before, it can be tough to know how to wear it. Here are two ways to style the sweater.

The Sweater. Please refer to Monday’s post for more details about this Lands’ End sweater. But, as I explained above, I deeply into this color, still, three years after I first purchased it.

One. My first thought was for this outfit was an olive green leather or suede skirt, but boy, did that reach into my wallet in a way I didn’t like. Instead, I chose this Ann Taylor skirt is a deep, caper green denim. It’s a little bit too long for me, but I love the style. I would hem it a bit, probably to just below the knee. BR Factory has a similar corduroy skirt for a lower price. If you’re plus-size, take a look at this skirt from Macy’s.

You don’t need an under-layer here, but I added this light blue top because I like layers for fall. This Ralph Lauren top if the definition of preppy chic. I also enjoy this affordable Zara top with the same vibe. If you want to blend in another texture, try a silkier top like this one from Quince.

Complete the look with a pair of absolutely phenomenal Loeffler Randall boots. If you need a more affordable pair, this Franco Sarto boot is a nice option. They also come in a wide calf option. Prefer a flat boot? Try Madewell.

Layer on a fantastic oatmeal coat, like this affordable one from Bernardo. I added a gold watch (my dream here would be a very chunky men’s watch, but this one is a nice choice as well), and a simple earring.

For the styling, I would wear my hair up, but not tightly pinned. Something a little looser. I would also make sure that I had a softly colored gloss in berry or mauve. This one from Summer Fridays is still my favorite 2+ years later.

Two. Let’s start with the suit. This Hazy Mauve trouser from MM LaFleur and the matching blazer lets you have a cool suit for the office that feels fresh and modern. I like that the mauve color can weave from fall to spring. This suit is also unexpectedly neutral with other colors — try it with a pale blue top with grey undertones or a darker plum.

Prefer a different color in the same family? This dark plum suit from Argent is awesome. Mango has a darker purple suit as well. For more of a crushed berry juice hue, especially if you need a wider size range, try this Universal Standard suit.

To finish the look, I chose a brown shoe in a rich color from Cole Haan – a very comfortable shoe. Instead of a matching brown bag, I chose an olive bag to bring the green and mauve hues back together. This Tory Burch bag is a great option, this tote bag is a more affordable choice. Finishing the styling, because the color palette is slightly aggressive, I kept the earrings very simple and clean.

For the makeup and hair, I would wear my hair down to relax the look. I would also keep the makeup more minimal, but with a strong contour to emphasize your cheek bones.
