Traveling for work has never been enjoyable for me. It’s twice as hard now that I have Sloane. I try to enjoy the break — I pack the good snacks and a face mask, and save a podcast to listen to in the quiet of my chain hotel room — but ultimately, I find myself watching the crib cam, listening to her breathe. I don’t know how much longer the live in Spokane, work in Olympia lifestyle can continue.

Friends Forever. So many friends and family sales happening right now. So.very.many. I picked a few things to try on because my fall wardrobe is looking a bit thin. Madewell is having 40% off sale, so I snapped up this short sleeve cardigan and this great chunky sweater. French Connection had this puff sleeve blazer and matching pant.

Printed. My office needs better storage. I’ve decided to buy two Ikea Alex cabinets and lay a piece of butcher block on top to create a makeshift table/desk. I found this Pinterest post on how to convert an Alex cabinet to hold a printer. It’s an easy DIY that even someone who is not handy (like me!) can complete.
Cozy Dinners. I promised I would start cooking again, even though I loathe it. But Uber Eats is why I’ll never be a millionaire. (As Bette Midler says, “I want it all, and I want it delivered.”) This week, I am making the viral Curry Broth Bowls from this Instagram video. (Here’s a written recipe for those who need it.)
Unregretted. This Substack post on how to avoid regret for an unlived life is worth reading.
Filling the Time. At the start of the year, I subscribed to The Binge because I don’t want to week til next week to listen to the next episode of a podcast. On my drive from Spokane today, I listened to “What happened to the Harrisons?” This pod tells the story of three family members who mysteriously die over the course of five years all while living in the same house.
Reuse, Recycle. I dug out my old Apple watch after seeing this Instagram video on how to repurpose it.
Fallen. This weekend was the last nice weather Spokane will see for a while. Summer is over tomorrow, and I need to dig out the big blue Ikea bags I use to store summer clothes and decide what will go into storage and what will go for sale or donation. I like to do this while the memory of which pieces fit well and look good is fresh in my mind. All three colors of this Modern Citizen dress will be placed in storage. Because some times you just find a piece that works.

Any thoughts on Aquatalia water resistant knee high boots versus non-treated knee high boots from other companies?
I was obsessed with Aquatalia for several years and my take is that for suede, I found it very worth it. It just wears better and doesn’t show its age as fast as non-treated options.
For leather, I’ve found non-treated brands to work just as well for a city lifestyle where I’m in the rain regularly but not jumping directly into puddles. This has helped me find brands that are more comfortable in the footbed.
But if you see a pair you like, I’d go for it! Despite my advice above, I have leather knee high flat boot from the early 2010s that still looks brand new.
On cooking, if you cant get out of it, get into it. Subscribe to bon apetit, get some cookbooks from the library (they pile up fast otherwise), visit the farmer’s market, buy the gadget. That’s the only way I can do it without dying of boredom.
