Work Wednesday: In the Navy

Feb 4, 2026

This is the Washington Legislature’s policy cutoff week. So let’s talk about wearing a basic suit for work in a way that has a bit of a fashion vibe, but doesn’t take a lot of work. Because who has time to think about her clothes?

This Navy jacket from Express is a great piece.  Comfortable.  Easy to wear.  Looks nicer than it is.  I may have the buttons replaced to make it look even nicer.

One of the nice things about Express is that they make several styles of pants.  These are bootcut pants, which are the easiest style for most body types to wear.

This Quince shirt with a soft stripe and a tie neck is a nice option with any navy suit.

To add a little something extra to the outfit, I chose these burgundy patent shoes from Marc Fisher.  A burgundy shoe is perfect for winter because it goes with ivory, navy, black and grey.

What buttons would you replace them with?

I’m thinking of a navy button. I want something a little less visible. The original buttons are actually decent quality.

Happy policy cutoff week! Thanks for reminding me I should really check out Express again for work pants.

  3. I would love a post on button replacements! I just bought some final sale jackets and sweaters from Ann Taylor that have buttons that cheapen the look of the item.
