My style could charitably be described as Basic Bitch, Plus. I want an easy outfit. I want a classic outfit. I want an outfit I can wear in 2025 and 2030, because I’m not replacing clothes until the seams fall out. And while I will never be the girl whose closet features feather trim, or tons of florals, or bright colors (though I did have a brief love affair with sequins in the 2010s), I want it to have one thing that’s cool or chic or interesting.
Enter, Eva Chen, formerly of Lucky Magazine (RIP). Eva has a very distinctive, Brooklyn-embracing style that I usually have no desire or ability to replicate. But this look gives me the basic foundation with a little something extra.

The Pants // Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: no, I am not wearing culottes. My pear-shape as ill-equipped to handle high waders as Joe Rogan is to attend a Bernie rally. So I am going for a wide leg ankle length pant.
This effortless pant from Ann Taylor is currently discounted. I also like this pant from Chico’s, which is a bit more polished (runs to size 20, tall and petite). Or head over to Athleta and snap up their versatile Pinnacle trouser, which is full length and one of my favorite pants.
The Sweatshirt // It’s difficult to tell exactly what the topper is in this look, but zooming in, it appears to be a sweatshirt. This makes it perfect for my Chic Mom Works from Home aesthetic. J.Crew has a fabulous ivory sweatshirt that I love. If you want something more polished, then swap in their roll neck knit sweater for a breezy summer by the beach with Nancy Meyers look.
The Shoes // Silver brogues had never crossed my mind as a viable shoe option, but there they are pulling this outfit together like a fashion gladiator. I’m thinking that I may need a pair. And if you are now thinking that this statement shoe might have a place in your wardrobe, Cole Haan has a pair that are both stylish and comfortable. If you want something more professional, give this more subtle pair from Fortress a look.
The Bag // This pop of neon is doing a lot of work to raise the punchiness of the outfit. So why not grab a neon mini-bag from Mille. Or if $200 is not in the budget for a statement piece, this Melie Bianco bag with the coolest geometric chain strap is the place to be.
The Styling // If you’re going to buy one piece of jewelry this spring, you need a simple gold bangle. Not too thin, not too thick, a Goldilocks bangle. This Ana Luisa bangle is a great option for any occasion. And I am so smitten with the texture on this Monica Vinader bangle that I think I’ll out it on my birthday wish list. Need something under-$50? This Sterling Silver plated bangle is a nice option.
For the sunglasses, Eva has a black pair. That felt a bit harsh to me, so I went for the vintage cool of a pair of Ray-Ban Clubmasters. I think it plays nicely with the brogues.
Lastly, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: If you’re going to wear light neutrals, you need lip color. I am so excited for these Lip Oasis lip treatments. They give you a hint of color with a great, non-sticky gloss in a product that also conditions and moisturizes. I loved The Outset’s clear version, so I know this iteration is going to be my go-to lip color all summer.
As for the hair, if you want to look dressier, then wear it up in a low bun. If you want it to look casual, wear it down and messy with second day hair. This is the dry shampoo that I’m currently using.

Love this look! Thanks for breaking down something you love but making it more wearable for someone with a different style.
I see silver boots and brogues intermittently. Would love any styling tips.
What dress/skirt length do you think is flattering and professional for us pear-shaped ladies? Thanks!
