My former boss, Rep. Denny Rehberg was known for two style choices: his mustache and his black jeans. During Monday night votes, you could often find him on the House floor, fresh off the plane, wearing his signature black denim. So perhaps it’s nostalgia that has lead me to decide that I need a pair of black jeans for this winter-spring transition period.

I tried to find out who the woman in the photo was, but Google Image Search was less than helpful. So if you recognize the lady in this Pinterest post, please share it in the comments.
When I saw this outfit, my first thought was, “Yes, this is my look.” I adore that the look is simultaneously relaxed and perfectly styled. It’s giving It Girl. So here’s how I would remake it (because I definitely will be wearing this look soon).
The Jeans // Given the changing seasons, a dark black jean feels too heavy. These washed out black/dark grey jeans are the perfect replacement. They have moody vibes, but they’re not so emo that they would roll their eyes at a sunny day.
My favorite ankle-length Paige jeans come in a very similar wash. Pistola denim has a similar pair in the $150-price range. Levi’s has a pair for <$100. And if you really want to choose a trendy pair, this Mother denim look comes in the oh-so-hot barrel style. Petite, plus, and tall ladies should check out this pair from Old Navy.
The Cardigan and Tank // A chunky cardigan has been on my list for spring as well. I only own smoother, thinner cardigans, like those you find at J.Crew. I think the chunkier styles give a more modern, chill look.
Alex Mill makes an absolutely fantastic cotton cardigan. I wish the buttons offered a bit more contrast (like these black horn buttons), but the all black look is sleek. For a more affordable option, both Gap and Quince have chunky cotton cardigans on offer.
The inspo photo has the cardigan buttoned up in a way you can’t see what’s underneath, but a simple ribbed tank never hurt anyone. Especially when it’s only $8.
The Accessories // Let’s start with the bag. A flap crossbody is a great option for weekend, travel, and light packing days. This one from Quince is a great price.
I’m not ready for sandals yet, but I loved the taupe shoe with the washed out jeans. They complemented the grey tones without being too dark for spring. The almond toe is great. This pair of Kenneth Cole flats look chic and comfortable. Love the sandal? They’re from Loeffler Randall.
One of the best parts of this look is the paired bracelets. On one hand, she has a coiled, snake bracelet. On the other, she has a simple open bangle. The different sizes really gives the look an extra jolt of style. And I love this pair worn with a simple, but cool earring from Monica Vinader.
The Styling // I love the super sleek look of her low bun. Unfortunately, with bangs, this style never works on me. If you like a sleek ponytail or bun, this kitsch wax stick is supposedly the best one.
I also appreciate the neutral lip look and bronze-y/rosy cheek. For the cheek, Merit has a new product blush shade called Bespoke that is perfect for this look. And for the lip, my favorite Gucci Call it a Day is the hue I need.
So what do you think about black jeans? Will you be wearing them this spring, or are they too drab for you?

As a long time reader I have to comment just how much I love this type of content! Whole outfits, a range of prices, great style, and giving credit where due. You are the real deal Abra!
I second that, you have really been nailing the outfits. I am a relative newcomer to black jeans, just in the last year or so. Now can’t imagine what took me so long, and this one sings to me!
I was thinking the same thing!!! Such amazing content and a real gem of a human for how she shares and communicates. Also LOVED the Jean inseam info. WOW, game changer for me with my short legs and short waist. You are the fave, Abra!
What a great comment, Elizabeth, and I wholeheartedly agree. These posts are so much fun and it gives me fantastic idea. I feel like I have a personal stylist! 🙂 Love the breakdown and digging into the options you provide. That Quince cardigan is in my cart!
I love every component of this outfit, but I have unfortunately reached the time of year where I absolutely cannot wear black a single more day. It always happens; I get the urge to switch from my dark and dreary winter clothes to spring clothes too soon, and I end up freezing for two more months. Alas. Maybe a similar look in shades of white?
I was thinking the same…I have a cream colored jacket but not black although I love this look. I will be trying with lighter colors. I have given up
Shopping for lent or I’d probably buy a black jacket 🤣
It is Anna! She is wonderful 🙂 https://annamaegroves.com/
Sigh… Montana and the illusion of clean black jeans as the solution to ‘business’ or ‘formal’ wear.
I was in Hoglund’s Western Wear in Great Falls a few years ago, when a 30-ish aged blue-denimed young man came rushing in and announced to the sales clerk that he needed a new pair of black jeans right away because “he was getting married in an hour and needed to look nice.”
I hope he did.
Hahaha! Thanks for sharing…
Me too, me too…
