Right about now is the moment our New Year’s Eve plans come together. Every year, we pretend we’re going to stay home. Then, we’ll change our minds at virtually the last minute, search for a sitter, and try to find an open reservation or take a friend up on their house party offer. So that means that, once again, I will be shopping my closet for an outfit. If you’re in the same boat, let’s talk about outfits.
Silk Tank // You know that silk tank you wear under your suits? It’s also a great going out top if you’re in a pinch. I prefer one with a wider strap, so that I can wear a regular bra. So reimagine that workhorse as a festive party option.
I like this one from Everlane that has a nice drape. If you prefer a shell style, Quince has a great option that comes in several colors. For a tank that runs up to 3x, this J.Crew option is currently 25% off.
A Sequin Skirt and a Chic Sandal // This is the easiest look. Add a fun skirt and grab your best, comfortable going out shoe. I shared these Sarah Flint sandals a few weeks ago, and you will find them on my feet tomorrow night when the ball drops, because I am just too old to walk down a sidewalk barefoot. They come in several colors, and I will be buying the gold metallic to wear to summer weddings.
A sequin skirt is always an easy, satisfying party option. You can find them almost anywhere this time of year, and in any price point. Aqua at Bloomingdale’s has one for under-$100. I also love this one from Toccin that has larger paillettes. Plus-size? Try this affordable skirt.
If sequins aren’t your jam, try a lace skirt. Gap has a fun one that uses sheer elements to make it more interesting. For a more traditional look, try this lace pencil skirt from WHBM. I also found this plus-size skirt with an incredible fullness and dot print. Amazon has a similar one in misses size. The goal is to find a fun, joyful option.
A Bow Cardigan and a Cool Jean // Relaxed New Year’s Eve gatherings at home or at a friend’s home are my usual cup of tea. I want to look cute and chic, but not like I spent a long time choosing an outfit. A silk tank under a stylish cardigan with a relaxed jean are a great place to start.
This bow cardigan from French Connection is lovely option. If you want a bit more coverage, ASTR the Label and Anthropologie both have really cute options. For myself, while I love the look of the white and black, this all-black option from Favorite Daughter would be my pick.
Wider leg jean styles are back in a big way, but if you like a slimmer style, these boyfriend jeans from LL Bean are a great middle ground. The distressing on these jeans is perfect, not too much, not too little. The wash is light enough to be casual, but not too light. And they come in petite, tall, and plus. They’re a huge win for under-$100.
To style both of these outfits, I recommend a red lipstick. This Fenty Gloss Bomb in The MVP is my favorite. I would also cat-eye some liquid liner using this tutorial. I also started using this shimmery eye pencil on my brow bone and in the corner of my eye, and it’s hot.
As for the hair, I would wear it loose and volumized. Roz sent me this Air Thickening Spray, and it’s incredible. It gives medium volume that lasts.

The link for the air thickening spray goes to some eyeshadow stick, FYI!
