Broadcasting Style: Rachel Green

Oct 9, 2024

The 90s are back in style. The heroines of my youth — Sarah Michelle Gellar, Katie Holmes, Jennifer Aniston, Claire Danes — are being celebrated by an entirely new generation of fashionistas. To fully embrace this nostalgia, I have decided to resurrect from the CHS ashes one of our old features: Broadcasting Style, a column dissecting the sartorial choices of our favorite TV and movie characters.

Let’s get started with the iconic, Rachel Green from Friends.

Work from Office // Argent Olive Blazer // Everlane Silk Tee // J.Crew Wool Pencil Skirt // Pavoi Drop Earrings // Kora Tall Boot // Coach Andrea Carryall

For this look, I wanted to create a truly professional outfit, the kind I would have loved wearing in my past life. So I took the color palette — olive and black — and folded it into the traditional attire of the a working woman, a blazer and skirt combo. To bring in a bit of the relaxed vibe that epitomized Rachel Green’s style, I chose a tall boot (in my world, worn with tights) instead of a pump, but your mileage may vary.

I love Argent for professional suiting, but since I don’t need it every day, the prices aren’t a good fit for my budget. This Macy’s blazer has a similar slim cut look. MM LaFleur has a similar blazer that runs up to size 20.

The rest of the pieces are wardrobe staples — a pencil skirt, a simple black blouse. I like this Everlane tee because it has a more modern look. For a sleeker, traditional look, try this Quince tee is for you.

Finishing off the look, are these absolutely phenomenal boots, a simple bag from Coach, and a pair of easy drop earrings that you can convert into oblong hoops if you want something simpler. Need tights? I am a fan of the Spanx tight end tights. They’re not as opaque as I would like, but thicker tights feel too hot post-baby, since it seems I have lost the ability to regulate body temperature.

Work from Home // A&F Olive Trench // J.Crew Black Jeans // A&F Black Crewneck Sweater // Marc Fisher Boots // Mango Hobo Bag // Missoma Hoops

This look is a nearly identical recreation of the Rachel Green outfit from the show. It’s a great option for a casual work environment or a WFH day when you need to go somewhere or be seen on camera. I love the trench; I am so impressed by A&F right now. If you want a shorter version, this cropped trench from Nordstrom gives a really modern vibe.

Black jeans are back. In my world, they’re mostly for cowboys and goth teens, but they’ve really come into their own thanks to the Gen Zers. This pair from J.Crew is a simple, easy to wear alternative to skinny jeans. I also like these Gap Factory jeans with more of a sunwashed look.

To finish off the look, I chose a more 2024 bag in a cool crescent shape. A slouchy tote like this Madewell bag would also be appropriate. I also like these cool Missoma hoops. Last, I own this belt in brown and it is glorious. J.Crew hit all the right notes for an awesome belt that isn’t designer, is well made and is completely wearable.

With both of these looks, I would wear lipstick in a berry or rose color, and I would definitely pile on the mascara. This Caliray is my favorite mascara because it doesn’t flake off, which has been a problem with every other mascara I have tried. I buy the trial size because I need to replace the tube every 2 months and I don’t go through the large tube that quickly.
