Bag Week: The Statement Bag

May 23, 2024

Sometimes your outfit just needs something. Some color. Some sparkle. Something bold, something impactful, a statement. These bags bring that extra.

Chatreuse is not a color we often see, but it looks great with any neutral — black, navy, white, tan, grey — and any blue or green hue.  This Mango Buckle Shopper is incredible.  It has an internal pouch, which divides the purse into three sections, and a crossbody strap.  Also in black and light tan.  Under-$60.

I could do an entire post about Zara and bags.  My best statement bags, the ones I’m still carrying 10 years after leaving D.C., are all Zara.  This canvas bucket is amazing — the buckles, the pleating, the trim — awesome.  You can have your initial embroidered on it for $3.

Other bags that blew my mind: this bag that looks like a sea shell, this wood clutch, and this oversized woven tote bag.

This Melie Bianco bag converts from a crossbody bag to a clutch by snapping the buckles together.  It comes in lots of bold colors.  It would be a great bag to take on a trip since it multi-tasks.

Texture is such a fun thing to add to a bag.  This beaded bag from Anthro is so much fun.  This green is my favorite but it comes in a lot of colors.  Under-$100.  This would be an awesome bag for summer weddings.

Sloane loves the pool. She jumps from the deck into the water with a crash, never considering her own safety, only to emerge on the surface, shouting “Again!” The pool is my daughter’s happy place. But no place where I need to wear a swimsuit in public is a happy one for me.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
