The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

Mar 27, 2024

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The cuffs on this 100% cotton blouse make it chic enough to wear on its own with a pair of jeans or trousers or tucked into a pencil skirt.  Machine washable.  Sizes run up to 14.

This striped shirt is probably my favorite of Behrens’ current range.  The thin stripes are crisp for summer and would look fantastic with white denim or a colored trouser.  I like the stand collar, it’s easier for me to pair with other pieces than a collared shirt.

Love this, thank you for sharing! Could Tuckernuck not have even tried to use models that would need or want anti-gape technology?! It’s really disheartening to those of us begging to see examples of our own bodies in advertising. Blah, I’m cranky today!

Do you have a favorite classic button down? I was thinking of replacing mine and considering Sezane.

As a fuller busted girl (36H), I’ve found that these don’t really work. It’s much sleeker to buy a regular button down and just have a tailor stitch up the buttons.

I just got her pink gold lame shirt and it’s amazing w white jeans. Seems like too much at first but I love it!

Heartily agree on the model comments; as a full-chested gal myself, this has been invaluable and i can buy any shirts/dresses without worry. I was fiddling with safety pins before and these are much more discrete.

Lands End also has the internal button. I love their classic button downs.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
