The Find: Two Pairs of Must-Buy Tights

Nov 30, 2022

Last June, I was deep in the throes of the pregnancy nesting phase.  I cleaned all of the closets, and then moved on to cleaning every drawer.  That’s when I made a decision that I would come to regret.

I threw out all of my black tights.

I remember the moment distinctly.  It was a Sunday.  I was standing in front of my birdseye maple dresser staring at a bin filled with rolled up pairs of slightly worn tights, and decided to toss the old and replace them in the fall with new.  I was so optimistic and hopeful then.

The problem is, I didn’t replace them.  I forgot.  (You know, baby, job, etc.)  Until Monday when I tried to get ready for work and realized that I own no tights, and that wearing dresses and skirts in December might be impossible without tights.  Time for a re-stock.

These Fleece Lined Tights from Nordstrom are the best for winter.  They’re warm, they’re thick, they’re very black.  And did I mention they’re $10 per pair at the Rack?

High denier tights are thicker and darker.  Usually a pair of 100 Denier tights will set you back — $50+ for Falke, $90 for Wolford.  But this Badgley Mischka pair is just $19.  They’re thick, smooth, and soft to the touch — no itching.  Grab them before they’re gone because they sell out.

Need a plus size option?  These Hanes tights go up to 2X and Boohoo has tights up to size 22.

This is EXACTLY the post I needed! I’m experiencing my first winter in Alaska – coming from a mountain state I’m pretty well prepared. But my normal high denier tights aren’t enough when it’s 80% humidity and 0 degrees. Ordering the fleece-lined tights right now. Thank you!!

Wishing you and your family the best this holiday season!

  2. Lucy says:

You can also find affordable high denier tights at Target and H&M!

Confirming that H&M maternity tights are a solid staple if you’re pregnant fall/winter and plan to live in dresses as I have been!

  3. Judy says:

Hmm looks like the Nordstrom ones are now only listed in Charcoal which looks more like gray to me. Maybe more in the stores?

  4. Leigh says:

Curvy ladies, look at Berkshire’s line of Easy On! tights. Super easy to pull on, no pinching, comfortable all day. My favorites are the plush-lined 200 denier:

and the 70 denier max coverage tight:

Maternity and smaller sizes available too.

I swear by the Spanx Tight End Tights. Just had a similar moment of reckoning when I pulled out some packed aways pairs from last year and realized these were the only ones that weren’t stretched out or on the verge of a run. They’re fairly warm and not too compressive (I usually order up a size being tall, which may help).

  6. SC says:

I still swear by the Commando no-waistband tights that you recommended ages ago — I buy one new pair every year, wear them to death from November-March (and yeah, sometimes into April, #Minnesotalyfe), and then toss. Lather, rinse, repeat!

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
