Monday Outfit: Fall Hues Meet Barbie Pink

Sep 26, 2022

The Docket Blog had a great post this week about wearing red pants with camel separates.  It’s a bold combination that always looks chic.  And it got me thinking that camel separates might also be a great way to wear the Barbie-pink trend to work without being overwhelmed by pink.  Let’s give it a try.

Pants // The bright pink pants are definitely the star of the show.  These raspberry slacks with bright tones from Banana Republic give me the pink vibes I want in a color that I can wear to the office.  The pants give you a hint of Malibu Barbie without being overwhelming.

Want a lighter shade? Reiss has a pretty shell pink. Maje has bubblegum pink.  WHBM has a pale pink pair for sale.  Plus-size?  ASOS has a pair of very pink pants.  J.Crew has a softer shade in petite and tall.

Sweater // I wanted the sweater to be more of an oatmeal color than a true camel, and the color of this boxy sweater was perfect.  I also like this <$20 dolman sleeve sweater from TJ Maxx. If you want more of a camel color, try this Nordstrom Signature cashmere sweater or this Vince sweater from Premium Outlets.  Plus-size?  Try this fine gauge v-neck sweater from A New Day.

Coat // This Double Faced Boden coat is on my wishlist.  I love the heathery-oatmeal color.  The double breasted style is slightly more modern.  And it comes in inclusive sizing offering a range of 2 to 22.  Boden always has great outerwear; the navy stadium coat is perfect for casual wear.

Looking for a more affordable camel-hued coat?  I like this lighter Sam Edelman Reef Coat and this camel Kenneth Cole coat with an oversized collar.  This petite skater-style coat from ASOS also caught my eye.

Shoes // I thought the leopard shoes with this look were inspired.  At first blush, the idea of hot pink pants and leopard shoes feels like too much, but when you see it, it just works.  The key is to choose a softer leopard — no dark yellows or orange-y hues — so these Cole Haan mules are a strong choice.  I also really like these kitten-heeled slingbacks from J.Crew.  Prefer flats?  Rothy’s Desert Cat print is the best one.

Handbag // This bone-colored flap satchel from Rebecca Minkoff is a great pick for this outfit.  The RM bags may not be as trendy as they once were, but they are still solidly made and stylish.  Looking for something more fashionable?  This Oryany bag may not be a name you know, but the strong shape and the cool clasp make it one that catches the eye.

Earrings // The earrings with the outfit are very bold, dangly crosses.  Not really my speed.  These Suzy Levan clover studs come in both yellow and white metal.  They look more expensive than they are.  Want a pair that continues the cross theme?  This pair from Wild Hearts incorporates the crosses inline with the huggie hoops.

So what do you think: Could you wear pink pants for the office?  Or will it just be pink jeans on the weekends?

Pink pants are a hard no for the office for me. pants are a foundational piece to an outfit, and it’s a lot of pink.

I agree, they’re also a no-go for me, but I recognize it may work for a LOT of people. As is, this might be nice for a brunch, shower, or, idk, maybe church (but I’m not a church-goer so if that’s SUPER weird, disregard).

  2. Allison says:

Ohh I love this! I wear camel with red alot, hadn’t thought of pink.

  3. K says:

Love this whole look! I work in pharma and I would wear this to the office or conference attendee. Maybe not to present but more so because of the need for a jacket rather than because of the pink.

  4. Erin says:

    The sweater link isn’t working!

  5. Nancy says:

Definitely works, especially for one of winter’s grey, monotonous days. And then use the pink pants with a denim shirt for more casual days, in or out of the office, and a very romantic blouse for a date night.I would also integrate the pink with grey in a similar way…

  6. De says:

I love this post! I wasn’t sure how to incorporate this season’s pink into my wardrobe. This does it! I work in consulting – business casual unless meeting with clients and this would def be work appropriate. Thanks for keeping up the fashion forward work ideas!

The Range: Eyelet Tops for Summer

Airy eyelet fabrics are one of my favorite spring/summer looks. White is, of course, the traditional fabric. But white is tough to wear when you have a toddler, so let’s go with navy this summer.
