Happy Hour: Meet the Dirty Soda

Jul 15, 2022

What on Earth is a Dirty Soda you ask?  Well, it’s apparently big in Utah.  And it’s a TikTok trend that allows you to make a non-alcoholic beverage that everyone in your family and friend group can enjoy.

The original Dirty Soda consists of Diet Coke, heavy cream, coconut-flavored syrup, and lime.  When I first read the ingredients, all I could think was, “Wow, thank goodness it’s Diet Coke, since we’re adding heavy cream and syrup.”  So I decided to make a lighter version swapping the cream and syrup for light coconut cream.

If you’d like to try some of the other recipes for Dirty Soda floating around the web, TikTok has lots of recipes.  I also found this list, which makes my teeth hurt just reading the ingredients list.

If you have a family gathering this summer, I would invest in a few syrups and accoutrement and have a soda making party.  Just be sure to floss afterward.

This tiered sundress from Amazon is perfect for summer barbecues.  It also comes in several other colors and runs from XS to XXL.  Or if you prefer a more relaxed shape, The Drop makes a similar dress in a tent style.

Need sleeves?  Try this dress from Calvin Klein or this dress from Graham and Spencer.  Plus-size?  This Halogen dress is fun in bright orange.  Pregnant?  Try this short sleeve pink dress from ASOS.

When I was pregnant, my friend introduced me to homemade Italian sodas- flavored syrup, splash of heavy cream, and seltzer. It is perfectly indulgent but not overwhelming, and easily customizable. Similar concept to the dirty soda here but a bit lighter without coke.

The idea of adding syrup to already-sweet Diet Coke sounds so blech to me! I could definitely see your coconut cream working though!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
