The Find: Gauze Dresses for Summer

May 24, 2022

Despite our wet, chilly spring, I am anticipating a hot summer.  And since I’m going to be very pregnant, I’m looking for light, breathable fabrics.  Enter gauze.  That’s right gauze, the crinkly, breezy fabric that is the perfect alternative to linen for those of us who want to minimize our exposure to wrinkles.

This dress from Gap was one of the first to catch my eye. It’s 100% cotton, and comes in three colors (black, a sheer-ish white, and a bright purple)  I like it because it could be beachy or worn to work on casual Friday depending on the styling.

For work, I’d break out a stronger belt and an open toe flat.  For the beach, I’d lose the belt entirely, grab a braided sandal and a straw hat and roll up the sleeve.

Other gauze dresses that caught my eye include this red Michael Stars dress, this <$50 jade-colored shirtdress, and this Monrow dress is summer time perfection in cream or orange.

Plus-size?  This gauze dress from J.Crew and this Madewell dress in a wonderful green-grey are worth a look.  Pregnant?  Try this Ingrid and Isabel dress.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
