Happy Hour: The Perfect Bourbon Cocktail

Jul 31, 2020

Marriage in the time of COVID is just asking the other person what they want to watch on television until death do you part.  This week, we watched Neat, a documentary about Bourbon.  And in the documentary, Seth Brewer of Enoteca in Louisville shared a cocktail that sounded perfect for the blog.

The Winner’s Circle is a fantastic cocktail that includes 1 jigger of Bourbon, .75 oz of ginger syrup, .75oz of Jack Rudy’s Elderflower Tonic, and .75oz of Pamplemousse Rose Pink Grapefruit Liquor.

I love citrus flavors in a cocktail, and this one has a wonderful combination of ginger, Elderflower and grapefruit.  Served over ice, it sounds like the perfect thing for a summer evening.

This jersey dress from Halogen comes in a flattering and easy to wear swingy shape.  It also comes in seven fabulous colors and prints.  Regular and petite sizes available.

Prefer a midi-length over the maxi?   They also offer the dress in a midi-length.

If you want to dress this up a bit for a casual dinner date, add some big hoop earrings, a stack of bangles, and some wedge sandals.  To wear at home, a simple shoe, a white denim jacket, and a turquoise earring should get it done.

I hunted around for a similar dress in plus-size.  This Anthony Designs off-the-shoulder dress (also in misses) comes in a fun goldenrod color.

The “midi” link actually sends you to the dress in Halogen Plus, and they have sizes 1x-4x in various colors! Good news for anyone who wanted the exact match in plus size 🙂

My dark under eye circles have been the bane of my existence since I was 12. Is the cause lack of sleep? Dehydration? Sinus issues? Stress? Who the hell knows. But there they are, every day, telling the world that I am an exhausted working Mom.

Sloane loves the pool. She jumps from the deck into the water with a crash, never considering her own safety, only to emerge on the surface, shouting “Again!” The pool is my daughter’s happy place. But no place where I need to wear a swimsuit in public is a happy one for me.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
