WFH Items: For Dressing Up a Bit

Apr 9, 2020

What a day.  The spacebar key on my MacBook is broken.  The Apple Store is closed.  We have no open certified repairers in Spokane.  And they can only take a mail-in repair if I agree to be without a computer for 12-weeks.  But it’s fine, it’s not like I need my computer to work from home.

But, hey, let’s talk about fashion, as I try to type this post on my phone.  Text may be light until I sort out a better solution.

Dressing up feels like such a luxury right now.  This BB Dakota Something About Dots dress feels dressy and special, but is so comfortable, you can easily wear it while working from home.  Then, you can sip a glass of wine on your patio and try to be hopeful about the future.  I suggest wearing this lipstick as well.

This Free People Sea Glass Midi Dress is also a lovely choice with a pretty floral pattern.  I also like this leopard maxi shirt dress and this long sleeve midi-dress.  Plus-size?  Try this red floral tie-waist dress.

I think you can hook up a Bluetooth keyboard and it will work.

  2. Meg says:

Wireless keyboard! I’m so happy I brought mine home from the office…it’s made a huge difference. I know stock is a little challenging, but I think apple is still shipping pretty fast (and they’re still paying their store employees while the store are closed, which is nice).

Also sorry you’re dealing with that…what a spectacularly terrible time for that to happen 🙁

  3. SR says:

I use an external keyboard with my macbook (mine is wired, not bluetooth). It helps improve the ergonomics of working from a laptop!

Have you considered a docking station? It might be more comfortable to work with a keyboard, mouse, and monitor? Not an inexpensive option, but maybe a better setup in the long run?

  5. Rose says:

It’s a super low-fi solution, but when my “m” key stopped working in the middle of my dissertation I just found an m I’d already typed and copy-pasted it. Maybe that could hold you over until you get a wireless keyboard?

  6. Rebecca says:

+1 for a wireless keyboard! I have a Logitech K380 (no number pad), my husband has a K780 (with number pad), and it has definitely enhanced the ergonomics of our home office setups. I have a MacBook Pro, and had zero issues getting the laptop and keyboard to talk to each other.

This computer has been a lemon since I bought it, so when I couldn’t find a keyboard that would ship this week, I just bought a laptop.

  7. Bee says:

Another voice chiming in for an external keyboard. It doesn’t even need to be wireless- mine was cheap, plugs into the usb, and even with an external mouse but without adding any other “docking station” it allows you to put your laptop up on a stack of books so you’re not hunched over looking at the screen, but still can type/mouse. And an external mouse is such better ergonomics than a trackpad anyways.

  8. Jamie says:

I am not positive this will work on apple, but in word you can create a keyboard shortcut for a special character (you can find it in insert) and copy and paste a space bar as a special character and give it a code like alt z or something. Then you would hit alt z for space.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
