I don’t wear pants to work very often, but when I do, they’re wide leg.   I’m so grateful that this flattering, comfortable style has come back into fashion.  Here’s how to style them.

Pants. Spanx High Rise Flare Pants

I was intrigued that Spanx was making pants, so I ordered a pair to kick the tires.  And I was impressed.

The material is heavy, good-quality and flattering.  The style is well-designed and flattering.  And they feel very comfortable at the end of a long day.  Plus, you can machine wash them, which is a nice benefit.

These pants come in regular, tall, and short inseams, and they run up to size 3X. I ordered the regular at 5’7″ and 32″ inseam, but ultimately swapped them out for the short because I wanted to wear flats.

My one complain about the pants is the price.  They run nearly $150.  They’re a very nice pant, but they’re not $60 better than the Ann Taylor knit wide legs that I’ve featured here before.

When building these outfits, I decided to go for ease and stick to darker colors and neutrals.  This work outfit — with a fitted blouse and blazer — would be perfect in any season.  White and black is a combination that just works.

I own this blouse, and I love it.  It’s pretty and feminine without being flashy.  Sized in petite and tall and up to 24.

The blazer on the sale rack at Nordstrom, so this is a good opportunity to snap up a summer suit that you can wear for years to come.  I chose this shape of blazer because it complements the shape of the peplum blouse.  Want something in black?  This Bar III jacket should work.

Hair for this would be cute styled in a low updo, and for the makeup, I’d so a sheer red wash under some chapstick on the lips.

This blouse is a pretty take on the mockneck that is everywhere right now.  It’s similar to this Banana Republic blouse, if you’re hunting for a more affordable choice.  I also like this Ann Taylor twist-neck top.  (Everything at Ann is on Early Black Friday, so it’s 50% off.)

Not loving the mock neck?  This navy blouse from Frame is a good option with a collar detail and a v-neck.  Plus-size?  This blouse from Aqua is similar.

To finish it off, I chose these amazingly chic boots from Vince Camuto.  So simple, but so elegant.  I also added a great (sale-priced) Minkoff bag that is perfect for work.

Three. Generation Love Lace Blouse // Vince Camuto Suede High Heels // Eye Candy Cat’s Eyes Drops // Kelly & Katie Coyote Clutch

This is a simple party look — lace blouse, sleek pant, high heels and a big earring.  No muss, no fuss, just lovely.

I chose the block-heel sandal because it will be more comfortable for standing in a corner making small talk.  If you prefer to have your toes closed up, this Loeffler Randall pump is fabulous.

For the hair, I would wear it either up or half-up, and I would add some waves.  I would also choose a pretty hair accessory like this gold arc clip from Jenny Bird.  And, you’re going to need a good liquid liner to give your eyes a bit of a flick.

Four. Rails Johanna Leopard Sweater // Cuyana Alpaca Scarf // Rothy’s Honeycomb Flat // Freida Rothman Mini Pave Stud

Lastly, I chose this leopard Rails sweater in olive green because it had a bit of unexpected cool.  The color palette is easy to wear, and the print is bold and impactful.  If you just want a straight olive sweater, try this cotton one from Ann Taylor.

I added a scarf because it needed something, and a necklace seemed too precious.  A loosely wrapped scarf finished the look without over-adorning it.  We don’t want the sweater competing to be the star of the show.  Also, this Cuyana scarf makes a great gift because it’s the perfect basic.

To finish off the look, I chose my honeycomb Rothy’s flats, but any point toe will do.  The pointed front lengthens the leg line and makes you look taller when wearing wide trousers.

I also added my favorite little Frieda Rothman earrings.  They’re so cute and chic.  And at under-$30, you can’t go wrong for yourself or as a gift.

For the hair, with a scarf, I always pull it up.  In this case, either into a high bun or high ponytail.  For the makeup, I’d choose a sheer berry lipstick, like Hello, Sailor.
