The Find: A Felt Purse Organizer

Jul 23, 2019

A bottomless purse is no one’s friend.  Lose a lipstick, it’s inconvenient.  Lose you business cards at a networking function, big problem.  So how to your organize a shapeless or oversized tote bag?

I’ve written about these felt organizers from Pelikus (via Amazon) before, but I wanted to feature them again.  Why?  Because last week, I was reminded how important they are.

Before heading off to an informational interview, I quickly switched out my Everlane Day Market Tote (with the XL organizer inside) for a medium-size satchel, sans organizer.  20-minutes into the meeting, the interviewer asked for a business card, and after an eternity of searching in my bag (at least it felt that way), I located one.

When I got home, I purchased an organizer for that purse as well.  The Pelikus was a bit large for that bag, so I switched it out for this Simply Put Goods organizer in size medium.

Can you do a post on informational interviewing, especially finding people to reach out to, what to ask, how to make them productive and not (what can feel like) a waste of time?

Do you find your Everlane Market Tote to be sturdy enough to put a laptop in, or does it feel like the weight of the laptop (and everything else in the purse) weighs the bag down?

I bought one after your last post and keep it in my Madewell tote! It’s pretty perfect, although I still do “lose” things if I don’t keep it organized. I just like how it makes the bag more structured, too.

Someone gifted me this at a speaking event and I thought it seemed so useful I should at least try it. It is very handy in one bag I use occassionally, but I’ve found it even more useful as an organizing station at home. I store extra notepads, pens, mail I need to process, etc in this on my sideboard. The fact that you can stand things up vertically within it makes it harder to lose them under a pile.

What do you think of the Cuyana purse organizer? It looks the best but I am hesitant on pulling the $90 trigger :/
