The Find: A Work Dress for All Seasons

Jul 11, 2019

It’s mid-July, so it’s time to start thinking about clothing you can wear into the fall.  And nowhere is the summer-to-fall transition more important than in your work wardrobe.

This T Tahari Tonya dress ($118) has a pleated shoulder and a flattering v-neckline.  It comes in navy or black (or both).  And the reviews for this dress gush about the flattering cut and the versatility.

For work in summer, I would pair either color with a white blazer and coordinating pump.  I like this notch-collar open-front Calvin Klein blazer for under-$50.  For work in the fall, I’d go for a long black jacket (for either color), tights and ankle boots.

Plus-size?  Try this Calvin Klein dress.  Petite?  This Kasper v-neck is a nice option.

Thanks for including petites in the recommendations once more – much appreciated by those of us who are vertically challenged…

I have this dress. I bought it with the coordinating jacket, last-minute, for a job interview two years ago. Didn’t get the job but still love the dress.

I have 2 Tahari dresses and find them way too short for work (I’m 5’8 and they show, like, 4 inches of thigh). What’s the length like on this dress?

I own this dress and love it. It’s too dressy for my casual office, but I save it for events, occasions and meetings and always feel my best in it and get a compliment.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
