Pick Six: Spring Fashions Under-$100

Mar 9, 2017

My New Year’s resolution was to get a better handle on my finances.  I was doing great until the desire to buy spring clothes hit, hard.  Within 72-hours, I had a new pile of clothes and a much lighter wallet.  (I’m now in ‘return mode.’)

Realizing that, when you write about fashion as a vocation, not shopping is really not an option, I decided to set a reasonable budget for myself.  Can I keep to it?  We’ll see, but with so many great fashions under-$100, maybe I can.  Here are the six affordable spring purchases that caught my eye.

After years of wear and tear, I’m in desperate need of a new striped tee.  This Land’s End tee is the perfect classic.  It has a good weight and slim cut.  It’s also an incredibly affordable $25.  Need the short-sleeve version?  Try this Banana Republic tee.  Plus-size? The Land’s End tee comes in plus-size.

I have an olive military jacket that I usually wear on chilly days, but I wanted to mix it up a bit.  This dusty rose biker jacket from ASOS ($61) expertly mixes edgy and feminine.  This affordable American Eagle bomber (also in blush) is another excellent option.

I know I posted this Sole Society tote ($65) the other day, but it’s so chic, I had to post it again.  The braided tassels are so fun.  Looking for a crossbody?  This flap crossbody with tassel detail is the perfect weekend bag.

The one shoulder poplin blouse is the hot piece for spring.  Open up any fashion magazine and you’ll spot one.  From the simple to the dramatic, they are everywhere.

H&M Cotton Blouse ($39)

Gianni Bini Dorothee Ruffled Blouse ($79)

This Halogen lace pencil skirt ($79, also in petite) is more versatile than it looks.  Wear it with a chambray shirt on the weekend or with a silk tank for cocktails.  For something work appropriate, try this curvy crochet pencil skirt from Ann Taylor.

Mules are very much in season.  And while the fur-lined Gucci’s are not for me (for oh so many reasons), these BP. Maddy Mules ($69) blend trendy and whimsical.  These silver Steve Maddens are also adorable.  Prefer a heel?  Try these stack-heel mules from QVC.  Yes, QVC.

I LOVE the pink bomber jacket from American Eagle you posted. And just my luck they are in stock in the store in my city. Definitely going to check it out- soooo cute!
I also was doing really well on my spending until the spring fever kicked in.It’s still silly cold here in Ontario- but spring clothes is everywhere. At least I’ll be ready when the nice weather finally gets here.

LOVE that H&M blouse! As usual, so grateful for your well-curated recommendations. I hate shopping, but I like new clothes! Your lovely recommendations minimize my need to sift through racks and scroll through webpages.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
