1) Why you should consider starting your job search in December instead of January. (Career Contessa)

2) Need a tote? Try this Sole Society Karlie bag in cognac, or this Street Level dome tote in a gorgeous deep green.

3) The Eight Friends You Make in the Modern Office. (The New York Times)

4) These $20 Old Navy flats in gold metallic are perfect for the holidays…or every day.

5) Tina Fey gives career advice, talks about how to say ‘no’, and explains where we go from here. (Bustle)

6) This red Saloni dress is everything I’ve ever wanted for NYE.  It reminds me of Kate Middleton’s utterly perfect Preen dress, but for 1/4 the price.

7) Don’t blame a woman’s career if her relationship doesn’t work out. (HuffPo)

8) I’m kind of obsessed with this Kate Spade laptop bag in a mix of soft neutrals.  I’m also loving her iPhone 7 folio case.

9) One of my very favorites: The 2016 Hater’s Guide to the William-Sonoma Catalog. (Deadspin)

10) Spotted this new jewelry line, Maha Lozi, at Shopbop.  This black stone hula hoop ring, and this teardrop zircon and rose gold ring are both very cool.

The Hater’s Guide to William-Sonoma is always one of the highlights of the holiday season for me.

Love the blog, been following for years! Minor annoyance – Kate’s proper title is Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. I know it’s a different case than other women who take on their husband’s last names upon marriage, but it is irritating that she is still referred to by her maiden name when she’s made the decision to change it after marriage. If we can do it for Amal Clooney, we can do it for the Duchess!

  3. Elisse says:

Hi! I really love that phone case. I’d love one like that. Here’s the problem: I don’t have an iPhone. And the general assumption that everyone has an iPhone really irks me. But I digress. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and I love it but I don’t love that I can’t find a chic case for it. I’ve searched everywhere but I just can’t find a beautiful, elegant, classy phone case, designer or otherwise. Can you help us non-iPhone ladies find some nice phone case options? I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

    • Crystal says:

This x 1,000. Everyone makes adorable (if not always the most functional) cases for iPhones, but they’re so hard to find for Android phones — even ones as popular as the Samsung Galaxy. :/ Belle, if you have any suggestions, they’d be much appreciated!

    • Belle says:

Have you tried GiGi NY? They used to make galaxy cases. Let me look around.

    • K Leigh says:

Not sure it’s “chic,” but I have a really slick case from Carved for my Galaxy, and I get a lot of compliments on it. They are very unique.

    Oh that red dress!

  5. Thank you for including Career Contessa! Job searches can be tough, hopefully our advice helps!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
