2016 Gift Guide, Belle’s Best

Dec 8, 2016

wrapping-giftbel

I’ve chosen my own gifts since primary school when I realized that Santa was no longer up to the job.  Sometimes, a girl has to take matters into her own hands.  This year, my family and I are not exchanging gifts (except for small gift bags on Christmas morning), but if any of them want to go rogue, or mail this list to my boyfriend, and I won’t hold it against them.

Here are the gifts I would buy for myself this holiday season.  Ho, ho, ho…

eduardo-garza-crystal-box-o

This Eduardo Garza Crystal Box ($47) is positively gorgeous.  I love the mix of glamour and natural elements.  It would be perfect for organizing small items on your desk, in your bathroom, or on your nightstand.

Tequila Mockingbird ($78) contains cocktail recipes with a literary twist, like Bridget Jones’ Daiquiri and Moby Drink.  If you don’t need the fancy leather cover, Modcloth has a hardback version for $15.

I already own this David Yurman Venetian Quatrefoil Ring ($895), and it is my favorite piece of jewelry.  It’s so simple and elegant, but it also has a very unique look to it.  For the classic Yurman cable look, I love this updated Belmont version ($495) with larger links and two-tone metal.

This Etienne Aigner Rabbit Fur Bag Charm ($35) would look great with a burgundy bag for winter (the pom comes in eight colors to match your bag).  If you’re not into fur, try Kate Spade’s double-tassel charm or indulge in a trend and add your monogram to your bag using her gold, stick-on letters.

This is my gift guide, so I’ll make the gifts as unrealistic as I want.  I am in desperate need of a new winter coat and this Burberry Gibbsmore Funnel Collar Trench ($1,095) is calling my name.  It’s so insistent, it’s using my full name with both middles.  “You know how happy your Burberry trench makes you, I can give you that feeling and stave off hypothermia.  Buy me, buy me.”

live-mistletoe-1-o

For an easy, romantic gift for the one you love, try Mistletoe ($19).  Just makes sure to keep it out of the reach of your pets, as it is highly toxic when ingested.

Bloomingdale’s cashmere is the best mid-price cashmere on the market.  This off-the-shoulder sweater ($138) can also be worn as a cowl-neck.  If you need a cashmere sweater Bloomingdale’s has every style and color you can imagine.

This spotted vase from Need Supply Co. ($66) is modern, chic and perfect for decorating your home or office.  For something a bit less pricey, I love this ceramic fluted vase in cement grey from Target ($34), it’s very cool.

silver_fox_faux_fur_blanket

The ultimate luxury home gift is this Silver Faux-Fox Fur Blanket ($278).  It is so soft, so cozy, and so warm.  Ask my friend T, you will literally have to fight the other people (and pets) in your home to be able to use it on cold nights.  It also looks gorgeous draped on your couch or bed.  Pier 1 has a similar blanket for $75.

Can you talk about what the limits are for a small gift bag? Are you doing this for everyone in your family or is it a swap? We are always looking for alternatives to the madness in our family so would love to hear more about your solution!

    • Belle says:

We’re going to a non-home location for Xmas, so I wanted people to have something to open. They’ll cost about $50-75 a person. They’ll have one big gift (a travel mug or something), some candy, a few trinkets (tide pens, etc.), and that’s about it.

  2. Jenn says:

    Love your picks!

  3. NS says:

I love the ideas. Especially love the faux fur. In case someone is looking for a cheaper version — I got a similar one from restoration hardware that runs less pricey.

  4. Chelsea says:

I didn’t know you were a Yurman girl too!

  5. Allison says:

Thanks for the tip on mistletoe, I had no idea it was toxic to pets!

  6. Sahra says:

yesss loving these! I would totally love that marbled box, and that blanket ! ah, so cozy!

    Happy Holidays!

  7. Laura T. says:

I love the Burberry Coat. I’ve been looking for that exact style and color (the gray) for months. Any chance you know where there is one 1/5th the price?

  8. Olivia says:

    Rabbit fur? Disgusting.

  9. Rachel C says:

Since you mentioned a faux fur blanket, I have to recommend the Dennis Basso line from QVC. I have 6 in my house and everyone constantly fights over them. They are the best quality I’ve found and at a great cost. Usually in the $50-75 range for an oversized throw. Plus they are machine washable! Some of mine are 5 years old, used daily, have been washed a zillion times, endured many pet accidents and still look and feel brand new.

  10. Jenn S. says:

The leather bound Tequila Mockingbird is really chic. I own the hardcover – it’s good for a laugh and some fun cocktail recipes.

I’ll take everything on Belle’s list. especially that Yurman ring!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
