I’m feeling a bit under the weather, so just one post today. Back tomorrow with another new feature.

***

1) The Era of the Bitch is Coming: If Hillary wins, brace yourself for the misogyny. (The Atlantic)

2) BR has some great work dresses.  I love this Deep Vee dress in blue, and this grey bi-stretch dress.

3) How Glossier harnessed the myth of the cool girl (and thousands of free blogger samples) to sell skincare. (Fader)

4) I finally found a sports bra that I don’t have to pull over my head.  Hello, Nike Hero Sports Bra.

5) Just because you’re busy, doesn’t mean you’re successful. (LinkedIn)

6) These Rag & Bone boots are sublime, but pricey.  I think these Vince Camuto Faythe boots are a good substitute.

7) It’s time to stop writing “I hope you’re well” in e-mails. (The Cut)

8) I would wear this cool French Connection sweatshirt (yes, you read that right) with a teal pencil skirt for casual Friday.

Bonus Article:  Because Syria matters, Aleppo matters, and this child matters.   A former classmate works for the Syrian American Medical Society, and they’re seeking donations. (Time)

The Rag & Bone boots are definitely an investment, but they are one of the best I’ve made. They seem to have an odd problem with the original heel caps popping off, but the stores that sell them (Neiman’s and Nordstrom) should be more than willing to send them to a cobbler for you. The black leather Harrow are beautiful and look amazing with everything. Highly recommend.

I bought a pair of black leather Rag and Bone Newbury boots three years ago. I had been on the hunt for black booties, but nothing looked good on. Wandering Nordie’s, I saw them and had a visceral “that’s the one” reaction. I’ve never, ever spent that much on a pair of shoes, but they’re so flattering, insanely comfortable and I had some bonus money to burn. I bought them, took them to the cobbler for waterproofing, and haven’t purchased another pair of boots since. I get them deep-cleaned and waterproofed once a year, the leather looks better every year, and I’d guesstimate I wear them 80-100 days a year in my cold-weather state. I do invest about $30 a year to have them cleaned and re-waterproofed at the cobbler.

Those Rag & Bone booties… I have picked them up no less than 10 times, sighed, then returned them to the shelf. Not just because of the cost, but also because I have zero clue how to style them. I know booties aren’t a new thing, but I struggle with pairing them with the right pants/jeans. Skinny, obviously. But what’s the right length? Does the hem hang over the boot (and obscure the detailing)? Do they tuck into the boot (and look “tucked in”)? Do you roll the hems (and look like Urkel)? I am so lost when it comes to jeans and booties.

    • IMC says:

I agree! I have a pair of booties that comes up a little higher on the ankle like these Rag & Bone and Vince Camutos, but I have no idea how to style them with jeans. I’ve tried rolling the hems, but if I roll them too much, it looks like I am wearing jean capris with booties, and if I don’t roll them enough, they just awkwardly sit atop the boots. Not exactly a chic look. I also dislike the way jeans look tucked in to them. Can anyone offer any tips?

      • Valerie says:

I’ve generally found that the jeans have to be tight/fitted enough around the ankle area that they’re almost like a legging, and the boot fits over them rather than needing to have the jeans tucked into them (because yeah, it looks awkward). Or the hem has to fall at the very top of the boot.

    • Valerie says:

I usually wear them with skinny jeans, or with leggings/tights and a dress. I would choose either skinny jeans that fit close to the ankle, so you can wear the top of the boot over the hem of the pants, or ones with short enough hems that they only slightly skim the top of the boot. It’s tricky sometimes, though…especially when you have a favorite pair of jeans that don’t cooperate with booties. Then I usually just save them for the leggings/dress outfits.

      • IMC says:

Thanks! Most of my jeans are straight leg rather than skinny. That could definitely be the source of the problem!

        • Alli says:

It’s helpful to know that it’s not just me, and it confirms that I have one (and currently, only one) pair of jeans that will work. Thanks so much!

  3. Valerie says:

I’m always on the lookout for supportive sports bras – I do a lot of long-distance running and regularly wear two sports bras on top of each other (it’s pathetic, but that’s the only thing that keeps a D cup from bouncing too much). I had a bad experience with a VS sports bra that had molded/underwire cups, so I’m curious to know if the Nike Hero is more comfortable/less chafing.

  4. Stephanie says:

If you want a sports bra that you don’t have to pull over your head (i.e., it hooks in the back), look at Moving Comfort bras. They are the best!

  5. TheLoop says:

That video is heartbreaking, Belle. The sheer horror that Syrian children have to endure! Thank you for sharing. It feels like the media has stopped reporting on the Syrian crisis but the people there continue to suffer. Thank you also for sharing about SAMS – I just made a donation to them.

  6. Lisa says:

After using Glossier’s bomb dot com, I can agree with the sentiment that the products are fine/slightly mediocre. I love the Top Shelfie series and am fascinated by the varying ways the women they feature view beauty. However, I don’t think I’ll be jumping to buy from their line again any time soon.
