1) The Myth of the Queen Bee: Why women sometimes don’t ‘help’ other women. (The Atlantic)

2) Nordstrom Rack has several Marc Jacobs bags at reduced prices.  I picked up a new wallet.

3) OPI is launching a Washington, D.C.-themed nail polish collection.  Here, take all my money. (Chic Profile)

4) This Topshop structured shift dress in dusty rose is divine.  I’m also loving this bold, red Calvin Klein sheath dress.  Plus-size?  This Adrianna Papell side pleat dress caught my eye.

5) A recent study found that women earn 90% of what men make until they hit age 32.  They’re calling it ‘the manager divide.’ (Visier)

6) For a relaxed look, I love Stella & Dot’s beaded Nomad bracelets.  Their fresh and summery Tile Stone Ring is also a must.

7) Why Rudeness at Work is Contagious, and Difficult to Stop. (Aeon)

8) M.Gemi is quickly becoming my favorite shoe shop.  Their Fortuna flats are the perfect work shoe.  And I kind of love these dramatic Arioso sandals for the weekend.

Can you comment on the comfort of the Fortuna flats? I have been holding off due to fears about this.

    • Belle says:

I had to stretch the toe box a bit, but I found them fairly comfortable otherwise. But if you like a cushion-y feel, that’s not for you.

  2. Caroline says:

I like that the OPI collection consists of colors that are well suited to darker skin tones. But those names are cringeworthy. For most of us the political stuff doesn’t have anything to do with what makes our hometown special.

    • Anna says:

It might not be what makes our town special, but it’s what most people associate with it and you can’t deny that a major part of the city’s workforce is tied to the government in some capacity.

    • Amanda says:

Agreed. “Yank My Doodle”? Seriously? I understand the need for the names to resonate with an audience beyond DC locals, but a lot of these seemed like they spent about 5 minutes thinking about it.

  3. Monica says:

I honestly believe that rudeness and incivility in general are contagious. I was raised on the Golden Rule, treat others as you would like to be treated, and I’m shocked sometimes at how people talk to each other. We can raise each other up, or we can drag each other down, it’s a choice we make with every interaction we have.

  4. kittycatbob says:

The sizing of M.Gemi shoes is painfully inconsistent. I wear a 37 and some shoes are so small in that size that I have to go up to a 37.5 or a 38. And the shoes I order in a 37.5 thinking they will run very small are huge.

You can return easy enough, but for those shoes that you can only get merchandise credit for, watch out.

  5. s says:

i love those nail polishes (and i actually like the names, too, but i am not a true DC-er). does anyone know where i can find these in august? like target, or do i have to order them online?

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
