1) How to score tickets to the White House Correspondent’s dinner.  It’s complicated. (The Washington Post)

2) Y’all know my feelings on pants, but I bought these Nic + Zoe ankle pants and I LOVE them. This ‘convertible’ cardigan also looks like a cool idea.

3) Your boss still isn’t cool with your visible tattoo. (Inverse)

4) Off the shoulder tops are all the rage this season.  This top from Iris & Ink is gorgeous.  For something under-$100, I love this BB Dakota top with black embroidery.

5) Who picks up the check in the Tinder-verse?  The future of money and dating for millennials. Also, why the Tinder dating pool isn’t completely shallow. (Medium; NYT)

6) Spray on nail polish? Okay.

7) Science says that people who point out typos are jerks. (Gizmodo)

8) Beauty editors list their favorite fragrances from then and now.  I loved Fresh Hesperides Grapefruit when I was younger; now, I’m a Jimmy Choo Exotic wearer.

9) How the World Cup winning U.S. Women’s Soccer Team is discriminated against. (NY Daily News)

10) Need a dress for graduation?  This ASOS lace dress in lilac caught my eye.  This textured tweed sheath dress could easily be added to your work wardrobe.

11) Uggs: the look that refused to die.  (The Guardian) (To be honest, I own these slippers, and they’re great.  But, they.never.leave.the.house.)

12) This $75 Amour Purple Cat-Eye Cabochon ring is necessary.  Drop everything; buy it now.

Thanks for the US Women’s soccer article. Just skimmed but excited to dig in to legal issues after work.

  2. Monica says:

I have a few peek-a-boo tattoos that show when I wear short sleeves or non-collared shirts. And while I’ve never had a problem at work, since they are easily concealed for important meetings or events, I would definitely caution anyone early on in their career to be cognizant of this issue. MOST people will not care how you have adorned YOUR body, but you never know what the person interviewing you thinks.

    • Caroline says:

I recently got a nose piercing, at age 33. Once you get enough years of experience behind you no one should be nit-picking your appearance. But early in your career you don’t have a lot to distinguish yourself from other candidates, so things like that matter more.

  3. Addie says:

A coworker recently got a tattoo on her foot which is how I ended up talking to another coworker (who’s about my dad’s age) about tattoos. He asked what my parents would say if I got a tattoo. I laughed and said “nothing, because I already have two.” He looked very surprised and commented on the fact that he’d never seen them. …Exactly!

  4. Caroline says:

I wasn’t a pants person until I discovered ankle pants. I like that you can wear them with flats and still look polished.

  5. Maggie says:

How well do the Ugg slippers hold up (inside use only, of course)? It feels like a hefty investment but I can’t seem to find a well-made alternative.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
