Quick Fashion Queries Vol. I, No. One

Oct 20, 2015

Dear Belle,

Who has the best jewelry for like under $100 a piece?  I feel like I need to pick up a few pieces but everything I see is so cheap…help.

Thanks for the assist! Fi

If you’re looking for fashion jewelry that lasts, my Stella & Dot pieces have held up really well.  I wear my Rebel pendant all.the.time.  Their pave Sphinx ring is also on my wish list.

The pieces aren’t quite as well made, but I’m fairly happy with my BaubleBar pieces.  You can get on the waitlist for my favorite necklace, the Garbo.

Hi Belle,

I will be spending a week in Disney World in late November/Early December. I will be doing a lot of walking around the parks and want to put comfort first but without totally losing my sense of style. What is your best recommendation for a comfortable and breathable yet cute walking shoe?

Thank you! Ali

I like the New Balance classic sneakers for casual wear.  They have a chic, relaxed feel to them.  This navy pair with pink details is kind of fun.  I prefer a simple neutral like these pale-beige and gold-accented sneakers.  You might also consider a pair of classic Keds.

Another option would be an athletic-style flat.  The Cole Haan Air Huaraches come to mind.  I also like these Gentle Souls flats (their shoes are very comfy).

No matter what type of shoes you choose, I would break them in a little before you go.  I also like to carry an anti-chafe stick to prevent blisters.

Hi Belle! I hope you’re feeling better.

I had a quick question. You posted this gorgeous Reiss coat on your blog a few weeks ago.  It’s so perfect – but pretty out of my current budget. Have you seen anything similar by chance that was a bit more affordable?

Thanks for all you do with the blog. I love it. BH

Oh, I loved that coat!  The funnel-neck is so chic.

I found this Vince Camuto coat that is similar.  This BB Dakota coat is shorter but is comparable in color and shape.  I’d also check out this grey coat from LOFT. This burgundy coat has a very similar shape but different color.

Belle,

Can you help me find a black knee-high boot with a work-approp heel?  I’m flexible on price, but let’s not go nuts.

xo, K

These kitten-heel boots from Mark are a great under-$100 choice.  I also like the look of these Tahari Fiore boots.  These Nine West boots are 3.75″ on the heel, so use your best judgment about whether that’s too high for your office.

For a bit of a splurge, I own these Loeffler Randall Viola boots.  My only complaint is that they’re pull-on, so they’re not as easy to take on and off as a zipper.

Ugh, I’ve also been obsessed with the Reiss coat since you posted it. So flawless! I think my next major wardrobe investment will be a coat like that one… but not for the next few years, unfortunately.

My favorite comfy shoes of late are Tieks (tieks.com. They come in a wide range of colors, provide sufficient support, and you can walk in them for hours without any problem!

  3. Anna says:

I love the Superga lace up sneakers some of the commenters here turned me on to. I got some in a pretty peach color and practically lived in them all summer. I think they’re more flattering than Keds and Chucks, at least with my muscular calves, and they have a pretty thick sole giving them plenty of support.

  4. Julia says:

re: walking shoes: TOMS shoes are crazy comfortable for ALL day walking (7hour plus)

Plus they are super cute 🙂

  5. Jennifer D says:

Greetings K – I would also look at 9 West’s “Vintage” tall boot. Comes in leather and suede with a 3″ heel. Classic, comfortable, and hopefully work appropriate for you. You can also find these at Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, and Zappos. Good luck – Jennifer

    • Jennifer D says:

P.S. They retail for $189, but Macy’s and Lord and Taylor regularly have sales, which is how I scored mine for much less.

  6. AAR says:

For cheaper jewelry, I think JCrew Factory is one of the best places you can look. It’s a little cheaper quality, but they look good and hold up pretty well.

  7. Melissa says:

I love the slim heel black boot, but I find the taps grind down after just a few wears. This is not helpful in the winter when I want to wear them more than once a week. I finally caved and bought a thicker-healed boot. 🙁

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
