Next to the Anniversary Sale, Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly is my favorite sale event of the year. It provides a great opportunity to buy a few basics or indulge in something fun to punch-up your wardrobe. Here are my best picks for working women from this year’s sale.
Classiques Entier Sunmosa Dress ($135)
Dresses. This dress is a wonderful warm-weather work dress. It comes in navy, black, and two bright colors. I think the neckline and the belt make this a stylish, sophisticated buy.
For work, I love this striped black-and-white Tahari dress. There’s also an incredibly stylish plus-size Julia Jordan dress in black-and-white. For a bit of color, this NYDJ Gracelynn dress is a winner.
Looking for a fun dress? This bright pink Eliza J dress is great for summer events. I also love this casual coral woven maxi.
Charles David Lulu d’Orsay Pump ($146)
Shoes. Charles David is a great brand, and their Lulu pump comes in four colors. I love this modern shape. If you have a bit of money to spend, I also recommend the Stuart Weitzman Platswoon Pump.
Looking for more affordable options? The Michael Kors Flex pump is an amazingly comfortable shoe, and at $76, a great buy. Also, I own these Jeffrey Campbell Calista pumps in black, and they are my favorite.
Need flats? These $98 Cole Haan skimmers in black and white are so very cool. And these perforated ballet flats from Michael Kors are very cute.
Pleione Mixed Media Top ($35, also in petite)
Tops. I love this top from Pleione because you can tuck it into a pencil for a relaxed work look or wear it with denim on the weekends. And best of all, it comes 11 colors.
Trouve also makes this great short sleeve blouse for $40. It comes in nine colors. And don’t miss this sleeveless v-neck Vince Camuto blouse for $35 (also in petite). Plus-size? This sleeveless mixed media top from Halogen is very cute.
Skirts. This wrap-front skirt is a fantastic piece for dinner or evening events. I love the look with a sleeveless silk top and a pair of great pumps. You can also wear it casually with a t-shirt and a flat sandal.
This printed a-line skirt has a great splash of different shades of blue. I also like this simple box pleat skirt from Halogen and this simple pencil skirt, also from Halogen.

I tried on that Lulu pump a few months ago when I was looking for a pair of nude heels and OUCH OUCH OUCH. In the first minute out of the box I knew they were not for me – there’s not a scrap of padding anywhere in that shoe. Just a warning to other tender-footed shoppers.
