Ask Belle Roundup Vol. IV, No. Twenty-Two

May 19, 2014

Dear Belle,

My hair is really dry.  My stylist suggested Ouidad Moisture Lock leave-in conditioner to keep it conditioned but it weighs down my hair.  It’s also really expensive.  Do you know of a better product?

Ginny

Better is relative, but if you’re looking for cheaper and lighter, I have that covered.  I like Infusium 23 Miracle Therapy leave-in spray.  It detangles and moisturizes to keep my split-ends from taking over between trims.  If you’d like an all natural product, I would also recommend KMS Moisture Therapy spray.

Hi Belle,

I am in a brainlock looking for nude/beige wedges for a bridesmaid outfit for a friend’s wedding. All the pairs I can find either look really trashy, flashy or too casual. Any suggestions?

Margaret

Banana Republic has a good, basic pair of nude wedges, which are 40%-off today with code BRMONDAY.  If you’re looking for something with a lower heel, try this wedge from Trotters or this peep toe J. Renee wedge.  Or if you want to spend a bit more, I loved these Butter wedge shoes.

Prefer a sandal?  I like these Via Spiga wedges.

If you don’t like the idea of nude shoes, you can do a metallic or snakeskin.  Unless, of course, the bride has requested otherwise.

Dear Belle,

Can you help me find a dress that is navy with white stripes?  Short sleeve or 3/4 sleeve is what I’m looking for.  I’m looking for something that costs less than $75.

Love your style!  Emme

The first one I found that I love is this Hayden dress with a short sleeve, slight drape and detailed waist.  Super cute.  J.Crew also has this stripe dress with a slightly colorblock feel.  This fit and flare Old Navy dress is also nice, and speaking of Old Navy, I own this Rugby stripe dress in dark blue with an aqua accent stripe.  Limited sizes are left, but it’s one of my favorite dresses right now.

Plus-size? Ralph Lauren makes a 3/4 sleeve dress and this Modcloth dress in navy and dark teal stripe (also in misses).  Petite?  LOFT offers this striped cotton dress.

  1. For the navy striped dress, I own the Mariner dress by LL Bean. I bought it last summer (they have it again this summer, I just checked) and wore it constantly. Super comfortable and holds up well to multiple washings. It’s $50.

I came across these nude/tan wedge sandals on Piperlime, where you can get 25% off (code 25LUCKY) + 15% cash back through ebates:

For a casual dress I bought this one from Target and love it! https://www.target.com/p/merona-women-s-french-terry-dress-stripes/-/A-15210358_201402201612

Cole Haan has great nude wedges

For the woman looking for nude wedges, I swear by Nine West Mela wedges. https://www.ninewest.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-ninewest-Site/default/Search-Show?q=mela

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
