DKNYC Split Neck Shirt Dress ($119)
The shirtdress is a great way to blend masculine and feminine shapes. When I wear my shirtdresses, the first thing I do is lose that flimsy tie belt in favor of something with more substance. I want to define my waist, not wrap a ribbon around it and hope for the best. For this navy and white dress, I would try a wide cognac belt like this oh-so-perfect calfskin belt from Brooks Brothers that has no buckle so you don’t have to worry about mixing metals.
While searching for shirt dresses, I also found this basic black dress from H&M and this relaxed Chambray dress from Gap (also in petite and tall). If you’d like more of a DvF feel, try this lattice dress from Jones New York. Prefer the look of a sleeveless shirtdress? This crisp white dress from JNY is lovely, and this black and white print dress from Gilt would be perfect for summertime brunch.
Plus-size: The DKNYC dress above comes in plus-sizes, as does this black Karen Kane shirt dress. Petite: This ikat shirtdress from Banana is sublime, and I’ve had my eye on this Anthropologie shirtdress for weeks (both come in misses sizes).
I love the Tucker wrap dresses:

They seem sold out everywhere right now but they pop up on gilt occasionaly.
I just picked one up on Gilt! I am so excited to wear it when it gets back from the tailor.
Ha we probably have the same one then since I just got a couple as well. I’m curious to know what you had tailored. One bit of advice I would provide is that the skirt can kind of fly up in the wind so strategic double sided tape is necessary some days.
I had the sides taken in a bit and the hem came up a bit. Good to know about the wind.
Could not agree more with tossing the ribbon belt. I have found it makes such a big difference in how the dress FITS if you add something more substantial at the waist. I have seen some women use the ribbon belt as a hair accessory.
Recommend the H&M dress, it is my “fat girl” dress anytime my stomach rebels. Had to replace the hem once already but it has already gotten frequent use.
