Eight Neutral Accessories Under-$25

Jan 21, 2014

I’ve really fallen in love with neutral accessories, especially those in a soft color palette.  But since we should all be saving our pennies for the spring fashion arrivals, it’s probably best to find some in an affordable price point.

1. Johnston & Murphy Animal Print Scarf ($24) // 2. Hive & Honey Double Hoops ($19) // 3. DKNY Fishnet Tights ($14) // 4. Cluster Mini-Drop Earring ($17) // 5. Forever21 Faux Leather Tote ($24) // 6. Nude Shimmer Snood ($21) // 7. Style & Co. Tortoise Watch ($19) // 8. Silas Stretch Bracelet ($22)

One. The mix of neutrals in this animal print scarf is really unique, I love the grey and tan.  At 75″ long, this scarf is perfect for twisting and knotting into different looks.  It also comes in a black, grey and white combo.  And if you’re looking for a neutral print without the animal instincts, Mango has a great black and beige one.

Two. I need to break out of an earring rut.  I wear the diamond studs my Mom gave me pretty much every day, and I think it’s time to bring some new pieces into the mix.  These double hoops would be great for going out.  I also like these subtler Kenneth Cole ones with squared-off corners for daytime.

More after the jump…

Three. If you’re not crazy about nude hosiery but want an alternative to black tights, nude fishnets are the ticket.  They smooth out imperfections with an unexpected sensuality.  Just make sure to buy micro-fishnets, or else you end up looking like a bad Halloween costume.

Four. If you’re looking for a pair of earrings that can work for daytime or evening, these drops are an excellent choice.  The stones have a slightly darkened color so that they don’t look like fake bling.  I also like these faux-pearl cluster studs from Croft & Barrow, and these after-hours cluster drops from INC with tones with blush and charcoal.

Five. This inexpensive leather tote bag packs a lot of style for small price.  I also like this oversized envelope cross body from Forever 21 and this taupe faux-leather satchel with a top handle.

Six. A knit infinity-scarf is a good transition piece for winter-to-spring.  You can wear it with a heavy coat or over a light sweater or striped tee.  This one is nice.  But if you’re looking for a thicker weave, I found this ivory scarf from Roxy.

Seven. This watch is a copy of a Michael Kors watch that I’ve long admired.  If you want a watch for its accessorizing benefits and not as a quality timepiece, this inexpensive watch might be a good option.

Eight. This metal and stone stretch bracelet is sublime.  The black is nice, but the green, malachite-like one is to.die.for.  It’s the kind of piece that you find yourself wearing every day.

I love all of these (that is very tempting)! Plus, I am impressed that they are so neutral that I can envision them with both warm colors (camel, cream, burgundies) and cool colors (blue, gray).

I have the Michael Kors version of that watch and I adore it. I don’t wear it every single day but I think it really looks nice against a monochromatic outfit. I’m wearing it today with a black wrap dress.

Watching Scandal has really gotten me into neutral accessories- Olivia Pope’s outfits (and apartment) are to die for!

What colour shoes do you usually wear with the nude fishnets? I bought a pair but am unsure how to match them.

I wear mine just like I wear plain nude hose, with everything. No one ever really realizes they’re fishnets unless they look really closely, they just assume they are a textured tight. I’ve worn them with my black tweed pumps, patent black, plain black, red pumps, etc. I just draw the line at the animal textured ones since they seem to pull the texture too forward.

  4. I can’t believe that tote is Forever 21 – so cute!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
