10th Commandment: January 21

Jan 21, 2014

Last week, we discussed transition pieces that can you through winter into spring.  One of the best year-round pieces you can own is a great navy striped shirt.  It’s a great layering piece and it looks great alone.

Iris & Ink Striped Top ($60)

After three years of consistent wear, my Gap tee is finally showing its age.  I purchased this top from The Outnet, and it is a great shirt for the price. The fabric is a cross between a lightweight knit and a mid-weight tee.  It hits in a good place on the hip–not too long, not too short.  My one piece of advice would be that, since the top is a bit boxy, small-chested ladies may want to size down.

Prefer a traditional t-shirt?  I like this Marc Jacobs Pam Tee and this JCP top for $15.  Want the navy to be the dominant shade?  Try this LOFT boatneck tee ($29, also in petite) or this Old Navy tee ($10, also in petite and tall).  Need a v-neck?  Try this Gap Essential Tee ($24, petite and tall).

Plus-size? Ralph Lauren Boat Neck tee ($65), Land’s End Striped Tee ($29)

Happy Hour: Atlantic Beach Pie

There are two kinds of people in this world: People who eat cake on their birthdays and people who don’t.  And some of the weirdos in the latter category (I said what I said) eat pie as an alternative.  So if you’re a “birthday pie” eater with a late summer celebration coming up, may I […]

The Find: The Only Wire-Free Bra That Didn’t Fail Me

After Sloane was born, I developed a seething hatred for underwire bras.  The trouble was that I had also developed a larger, slightly droopier bust.  It was a cruel irony.

The 2010s Trends I’m Loving and Leaving Behind

Our tween and teen nieces spent the first half of 2023 reviving our high school fashions.  From peasant tops to low rises, I felt like I was back bopping to N’SYNC in my mint-green sedan for a minute.  Now, our 20-something direct reports are bringing back the 2010s in a big way, and I am […]
