Sam Edelman Pave Spike Earrings ($60) // 5. Mango Quilted Dress ($80) // 6. T by Alexander Wang Ruched Mini ($140) // 7. Mango Funnel Neck Coat ($130) // 8. J.Crew Cashmere Tee ($148) // 9. Chinese Laundry Cadence Flat ($90) // 10. BR Parkside Satchel ($220)

One. After the holidays is a great time to shop for an evening clutch.  The stores are full of discounted or inexpensive clutches like this one from DSW.  I also really like this clutch from Glint with a Lucite clasp; it comes in gold, silver and black for under-$50.

Two. Remember a few years ago when neon was the hot trend?  The Fashion Magpie recently predicted that neon would make a comeback, and she was right.  This Stella sweater with a hint of neon on the band is the perfect way to rock a pop of bright color.  I also like this Express sweater with a smattering of neon studs, and this Hayden striped sweater with neon trim.

Three. Fabrics textured with animal prints are all the rage right now.  This Topshop tee has a great snakeskin texture that gives the basic black tee a boost.  I also found this snakeskin-embossed Rebecca Taylor dress and this Bailey 44 textured pencil skirt.

Four. I love these pave cuff earrings for evening events or weekend wear.  They’re chic and fresh without being too much to handle.

Five. This long-sleeved dress is right up my alley.  I adore the off-white color, the geometric texture in the fabric and the almost-knee length hemline.  Add a statement necklace or a stack of bangles and you have the perfect look that works for winter or spring.  I also love this color block Ralph Lauren dress and this Vince Camuto dress with embellished shoulders.

Six. This ruched, jersey mini-skirt is a great option for dinner and evening.  You can wear it in the warmer weather or with tights during the winter.  If you’d like something similar for less, try this Free People skirt.

Seven. This white, funnel-neck coat is pure Olivia Pope.  I love the modern cut and the zipper details.  I also like this wide-lapel Jessica Simpson coat and this inexpensive Wallis coat with a funnel-neck and a swingier shape.  Plus-size? Check out this black Calvin Klein coat.

Eight. If you want more than a pop of neon to boost your winter wardrobe, a bright sweater is a great option.  This J.Crew cashmere sweater is a good place to start.  Bloomingdale’s also has an inexpensive cashmere sweater that comes in bright orange, hot pink or cobalt.  I also like this slouchy open-knit sweater from Forever21 in a bright pink.

Plus-size ladies should check out this Forever21 sweater in citron and bright pink.  Petite ladies should look at this bright coral cowl-neck sweater from Gap.

Nine. I love the pop of black and white print on these otherwise basic flats.  They’re a great shoe for the spring transition period.  They’d look lovely with pants or a skirt.  Want a bit more print?  Don’t miss these black and white flats from Sole Society.

Ten. When the weather warms, black handbags start to feel a little bit heavy.  That’s why I love the strip of black and white textured leather on this Banana Republic satchel.  It provides just the right amount of lightness.  If you want to make a stronger statement with black and white?  Check out this under-$25 bag from Nordstrom or this chic Kate Spade bag.

I see so many cute box clutches and minaudieres, but they’re usually too small to fit an iPhone in addition to keys, cards, lip gloss, etc. Any recommendations for slightly larger clutches that can accommodate today’s larger electronic devices?

Word to the wise on Mango, order through Amazon rather than their website. It sent me back to the start of the checkout process three times before I gave up and ordered through Amazon only to discover Mango had charged my card all 3 times. I believe I was able to stop the shipment on 3 of the 4. Hoping the 4th looks fabulous!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
