From Left to Right, Ivanka Trump Carra Heel ($135) // Charles David Katya Pump ($179) // BR Ninah Pump ($128)
I’ve long advocated metallic sandals an open-toe pumps for evening wear. Recently, I’ve been seeing pointed-toe metallic heels popping up in fashion magazines and on red carpets. But are these shoes appropriate for daytime wear?
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the answer is that it depends on your job, your office and the outfit that you’re wearing them with.
If you want to try metallic pumps for daytime wear, choose a color that’s more subtle. The gunmetal pump on the left is a good example. I also like these pewter pumps from Enzo Angiolini.
These textured pewter heels from Steve Madden are my absolute favorite. I can see myself wearing the Madden pumps with neutrals like black or navy separates. They would also look fabulous with fall colors like burgundy or a brighter shade like cobalt.
For spring, I also like these Sam Edelman Othello slingbacks in silver and these under-$100 Edelman Della Pumps in a mix of beige suede and metallic. And if you’re interested in trying metallic heels, but don’t want to break the bank, try these pewter snakeskin J. Renee pumps and these gold-bronze Jessica Simpson pumps are both under-$75.
On the boldness scale, I find metallic heels to be one step above lipstick red pumps. For some of you, they might be a stylish way to spice up your basic office attire, while for others, they’ll be strictly weekend wear.
I LOVE those Ivanka Trump heels and imagine that they might actually act as a neutral depending on how they “read” in person.
I have a pair of metallic (but not shiny) gunmetal low-heel pumps that I’ve found to be surprisingly versatile. I like them to wear with grays because it doesn’t look like they need to “match” the exact shade of gray, and I wore them a lot with navy when I couldn’t find fashionable navy pumps.
I’m with KC. If you have to have just one or two pairs of nice shoes, say in your desk drawer at work, metallics goes with everything. If a pointed toe high-high heel is too much for the office then style down into something more suitable, but keep the color.
I definitely appreciate that this is becoming more acceptable. I find metallic pumps a more grown up way to add some excitement to an outfit than the ridiculous neon trend.
And if you’re not afraid to go “lowbrow”, I saw a pair of Sam & Libby (available at Target) metallic pumps in a rose gold with the same texture as the Ivankas pictured above; on clearance for $19.99.
