PCT: Working the Phones

Oct 7, 2010

For most campaign volunteers, any time not spent knocking on doors is set aside for making voter calls.  And while phoning hundreds of average Americans (hopefully, not during their dinner hour) is a good way to build support, the dress code for such work is decidedly casual.  (In ’08, my volunteers wore pajamas.)

What?  It’s jeans and a sweatshirt.  I don’t care what you say, that’s casual.

1.  Cascade Sweatshirt (Alloy, $25)

2.  Raisin Sequin Silk Tee (J.Crew, $148)

3.  Citizens of Humanity Ingrid Flare (Revolve, $149)

I’m telling you, flare jeans are hot this season.  I also really love the wash on this pair — not too light, not too dark.

4.  Grey Suede Kyro Flat (Steve Madden, $60)

5.  Silver Marcasite Studs (Sears, $20)

There’s plenty of sparkle on the t-shirt, so it’s best to keep the jewelry minimal.

Love the flats, and I'm happy that flare-leg jeans are back (I'll take boot-cut, too). A slightly flared leg opening is so much more flattering on most women than skinny jeans. Don't get me wrong, skinny jeans have their time and place, and are always great for tucking into boots, but there are just some women/girls who should NOT ever wear anything with “skinny” in the title.

I love and want this whole outfit….

  3. Gwen says:

This may be my favorite outfit you've done in the recent past. I love the new posting format too.

  4. Megan says:

Have you thought about using Polyvore for an easier and linking-friendly collage?

  5. Belle says:

The House blocks the polyvore widget, so 1/3 of the readers wouldn't be able to see it.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

Three Outfits I’ll Wear All Spring

When I started this blog, influencers still re-wore clothes. There were no haul videos filled with the latest from Shein before it winds up in a beach in Ghana poisoning the planet. There were no sponsored campaigns delivering fresh wardrobes each month. The content machine doesn’t like reruns.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
