PCT: Six Beauty Must Haves

Oct 7, 2010

The campaign trail is murder on a girls beauty routine.  You barely sleep, the only liquid consumed is coffee, and the stress can give your skin a complex.  But never fear, there is hope for beleaguered campaign workers everywhere, these six products will help you retain your appearance (and your self-esteem).

Confessions of a Concealaholic (Benefit, $36)

This kit by beauty giant Benefit, gives you everything you need to fake that well-rested, full night’s sleep look.

Step 1: Apply the luminizing primer to your entire face to wake up your tired skin.

Step 2: Hide the dark circles with the pinky-hued Erase Paste.

Step 3: Use Lemon Aid on your upper lids and Eye Bright to the inside corners and lower lash line.  This will instantly wake-up your eye.

Step 4.  Use the concealer to touch up any leftover darkness and conceal any diet induced acne (pizza is no friend to your skin).

And voila!  It looks like you’ve actually slept in a bed (as opposed to at your desk) for more than four hours (as if).

Gee… that was quick! Makeup Remover ($21)

When the long day is over, the last thing you want to do is spend precious sleeping time removing your makeup.  Gee…That was Quick Makeup Remover actually lives up to its name, removing even caked on mascara in a few easy swipes.  I received a bottle free with purchase from Sephora a few months back, and I will never remove my makeup with soap again.

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha-Beta Daily Face Peel ($80)

I recently purchased a sample 10-pack of this product from Sephora, and I love it.  Sure the light tingling can be a bit disconcerting the first time that you use it, but beauty is pain.

This product will leave your skin radiant and smooth.  I’ve even noticed a reduction in breakouts and some softening of previous scar damage.  Definitely worth a try.

Kate Somerville Quench Serum ($65)

This is a product that I learned about on QVC while flipping through the channels.  Seriously, is there anything you can’t buy on QVC?

Anyway, this serum is perfect for giving your skin a boost in hydration without layering on heavy products.  Just a little dab will make your skin feel silky soft and eliminate dryness.  If you want to try a sample before you commit (always recommended), the product is now being sold at Nordstrom in Pentagon City.

Bliss Glamour Gloves Set ($58)

How many hands do you shake while following your candidate across his state or district?  About a million.  This means that you need to wash and Purel your hands about a million times as well.  And since no one wants to shake hands with a person who has chapped digits, you need to moisturize.

Even if the hand cream exceeds the three ounce carry-on liquid limit, toss the gloves in your bag for use with any hotel brand lotion.  Your hands and the voters will thank you.

Ampule System (GoSmile, $89)

Who says your skin is the only part of your body that suffers while on the trail?  All that coffee is going to be really tough on your smile.  These handy ampoules from GoSmile are smile enough to fit in your pocket or purse and give your teeth a quick, post-caffeine touchup.

Another month has come and gone, and between a busy work schedule, illness and the search for new childcare, I almost forgot to ask for questions for the AMA.  Luckily, I remembered late last night.  So here we go. I always think it’s funny when people send rude or overly personal questions when I put […]

I love stocking stuffers.  They are the best part of Christmas.  There’s just nothing quite like an affordable gift that’s funny or useful or chic (or maybe all three).  So here is Part One of my stocking stuffer gift guides, where nothing costs more than $30.

You Have, You Need: Camel Sweater Edition

In the name of fiscal responsibility, I’m taking a shopping respite through the end of the year.  When you write a fashion blog, not shopping is like being a person on a diet who moves into a McDonald’s.  But I’m determined to flex some self-discipline now that my holiday shopping is done.

Add to Cart: Five Recent Amazon Purchases

Since my daughter was born, Amazon has claimed so much of my money that I had to buy stock just to get some of it back.  Between the formula, onesies, fruit pouches, diapers, wipes, and ever evolving list of baby development gear, I could not survive without Prime.   My husband no longer notices the […]
