From Hell's Heart, I Stab at Thee

From the Georgetown Metropolitan:

Why is GM bothering you with fashion critique? Because [Ugg the] purveyors of a canklefied silhouette are coming to Georgetown. At least according to the ANC agenda that was release yesterday. According to it, UGG Australia is moving 1249 Wisconsin Ave., where Diesel used to be.

Frankly, I’m thrilled that the powers that be at Ugg Australia are finally opening a store in the District.  That’s right, I’m thrilled.  Ecstatic, in fact, that the canklefied (what a great word) fashions of Down Under will soon be sold to the masses of sorority girls, trophy wives and less-than-frugal fashionistas who populate Georgetown’s cobblestone sidewalks from an actual brick and mortar location.

Why am I thrilled, you ask?

Because the construction of a “flagship store” so close to my home will finally provide me with a convenient place to picket.  After all, Washington, D.C. loves a good protest. Sure, I could go to Nordstrom and picket outside the shoe department, but having a flagship store makes the image so much more iconic.

To get this anti-Ugg campaign off off of the ground with a bang, I’m considering the following designs for the campaign buttons:

You Don’t Mess with a Classic

The New Hotness

Tough to Read but It Gets the Point Across

My fellow Washigntonians, I cannot wait until the blissful summer day, when I may stand in front of the Ugg Store and exercise my First Amendment rights: freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom from having to see ugly, filth covered, water stained suede boots roaming the streets of D.C.  I hope that when the glorious day comes, I can count on you to stand by my side in the picket line of glory as I rail against the slobbification of America.

Down with the shearling overlords from Down Under!  We must take our country back one hideous boot at a time!

I think it’s ironic that you make a big deal over your copyright yet violate other people’s copyright by using the first photo with attribution and then take somebody else’s photo and modify it without permission for your protest pins.

  2. Copyright says:

    ^Without not with.

  3. KLo says:

Thank God you hate them as much as I do.

  4. amy b.s. says:

    you just made my friday!

  5. Ms. B says:

Mine too! The latest trend here is guys in uggs. That takes it to a whole new level. On a positive note: At least something is good for the Austrailian economy.

  6. Jill says:

I have Uggs slippers that I put on the minute I get home. They’re so great. But not to be worn outside the house. I think the brand is meant for the wearer’s-eyes only.

  7. Belle says:

Copyright-I put the notice up because the friend who made the buttons for me asked me too. I’m not an attorney, but she made them and she asked, so I did it.

Jill-it is not the owning of uggs I am against, it is the wearing of Uggs to work and out to occasions where they are not appropriate. So where them at home all you want!

  8. Have you ever lived in cold weather? says:

Have you ever lived in Chicago or a really cold town? I am a fashionista and I am sorry when it is minus 10 what type of show would you recommend people wear?

  9. Have you ever lived in cold weather? says:

    ^ shoe

  10. Belle says:

Have I ever lived in cold weather? Hah! I once lived in a town that was a mile above sea level and winter lasted nine months of the year. A town so cold that 40 below is not unheard of…and what do we wear on our feet? Boots!

More specifically waterproof boots with actual traction, unlike Uggs which are suede (no good for snowy conditions) and provide about as much traction as a racing tire.

Also, if women only wore their Uggs when it was REALLY cold and snowy, my anger would not be so extreme. But let’s face it, most women believe that Uggs are seasonless.

  11. Never Excusable, sorry says:

When it’s minus 10, one can assume that there’s snow or at least some reasonable amount of ice, in which case Uggs are useless, anyway.
They soak through, not to mention stain, at the first signs of moisture.
I don’t think Uggs are appropriate for anyone over 16. Unless, of course, you like to follow pre-teen trends.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
