The Golden Globes: Back in Black

Jan 18, 2010

There were many black gowns on the carpet this year, some were boring but others were sublime.  Here are my favorites from the ladies in black.

Lea Michelle looks smashing in Oscar de la Renta.  This dress is a little poofy for me, but I adore the pleating on the sweetheart bodice and the texture of the skirt.  I also think she had the best smokey-eye of the night.

Olivia Wilde does her best Bridget Bardot in a slinky, sequined Gucci and a sexy ponytail.  It still doesn’t rival the Carolina Herrera she wore to the Emmy’s in 2008.

Meryl Streep never ceases to amaze with her incredible talent and her ability to dress in way that is both age appropriate and elegant.  I love the slight asymmetry of the neckline and the casual belt.  And of course, there is no better accessory than a golden statuette.

Penelope Cruz had my favorite black dress of the night.  This Armani Prive frock has ribbon striping, floral detail and soft, shimmering bodice.  And toting that chic umbrella, she looks like a character straight out of a Fellini film.

Meryl Streep’s dress was lovely, and was Dame Helen Mirren in vintage black Emporio Armani 🙂

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
