Once upon a time, before I was an attorney, before I was married, before Sloane was born, I wrote styling posts nearly every day. Collages. Graphics. Hours spent removing backgrounds, kerning items into place. Now, these posts are more sporadic (a good collage might take 3-hours start to finish), but some pieces just deserve one — like this short sleeve sweater. Here’s how to wear it.

Sweater // J.Crew Rolled Cashmere Sweater
As I mentioned this morning, a simple, short sleeve sweater is a great piece for fall and winter if you need something that layers easily. It functions like a warmer t-shirt. And this one from J.Crew has a great slouchy drape to it that can be easily dressed up or down. I also like the wide selection of colors.
Cocktails // Pants // Bag // Shoes // Necklace
Silky pants are everywhere this season, and with good reason. Who doesn’t want to be comfortable and look chic? Pairing them with a simple sweater creates a look that is perfect for cocktails over the holidays. You looked dressed up without trying too hard. These pants from J.Crew are a great option. People are also raving about these Anthropologie pants.
To really jazz up the look, I chose an oversized clutch in a puffy style from ASOS. I really love how chic this looks. No sparkles, no frills, just a unique shape. I also like this dark green paper bag style clutch from Marcella.
For the shoe, you really need the pointed toe. The structure this M.Gemi kitten heel brings to the outfit is critical. Also, the crocs-embossed texture gives a lot of balance. And finish the whole look off with this very cool necklace from Mango. It would also look amazing with a navy sweater.
For the styling, I would wear the hair down and loose. I would also choose a deeper burgundy lipstick. Not a gloss or a wash, something with real impact. The Fenty Bomb Stick in Black’R Berry is a favorite.
The Office // Skirt // Boots // Bag // Earrings
This look has a little bit of a punk rock vibe that was unintentional, but is welcome. It’s one combat boot and a Shirley Manson album from sliding back to the 1990s. But with the high heel boot and the slouchy sweater, I like the tailored, slightly British vibes.
I love the skirt from Mango. It’s a really fun option. I also contemplated a navy leather skirt, but the plaid felt more interesting. If neither is for you, a burgundy pant works really well too. And if you need to add a jacket, you can lean into the UK look with something navy and tailored or go the other way with something black and oversized.
This bag from Veronica Beard is the latest iteration of the Dash bag. It’s more relaxed and wearable than their gorgeous top handle satchel, but no less beautiful.
For the styling, I would wear my hair down. I would also make sure to lean into a bit of bronzer and rosy cheek color. This palette has a tendency to make me look paler than I am.
Fall Events // Jeans // Coat // Boots // Earrings
Saylor gifted me this coat earlier this fall. It’s just as gorgeous in person as the photos, and the scarf attachment looks incredible. But it is not particularly warm, so unless you like in a mild climate, I would pass. However, it looks incredible while holding your child at a pumpkin patch. Love the plaid, but need the warmth? Try this Boden coat.
I wore the white denim to lighten the look, but any denim will do. Spanx makes most of the jeans I’m wearing right now. My lower abdomen feels better when it’s backed up with a bit of structure. One of the consequences of pregnancy, I suppose. If you prefer a jean without any lift, Paige still makes the best one.
I chose a brown boot because the jacket is mostly navy, and black would have looked a bit harsh with the lighter denim. The earrings are incredible for work or weekend because they’re interesting but understated. A simple hoop would do nicely as well. For a bag, I would choose something navy.
For the styling, on the weekends, my hair usually mostly dry shampoo. So by Sunday afternoon, it’s a low ponytail or bun. For the makeup, I prefer to keep it minimal on the weekends for speed. I like the No Makeup line.
