The Range: Short Sleeve Sweaters

Oct 20, 2026

I grew up in the frigid cold of 1980s Montana, which is very different than 2020s Montana. It was colder, wetter, and with deeper snow than I will likely see again in life. Washington weather is bleak, grey and chilly in that bone searing way that sticks with you for hours, but it’s not really that cold. Sadly, my brain still buys winter clothes more appropriate for my childhood than for my 2026 life. And when I travel to milder climates in the winter, I often find myself roasting in thick sweaters and wool blazers as a result.

This year, I resolved to develop winter outfits that are designed for 50-degree days and -10-degree days. How? Layering. But layering over a long sleeve sweater is often a nightmare for flexion. And if you type as much as I do, you need to be able to move your elbows and shoulders with ease. So I bought two short sleeve sweaters. Less bulk under a blazer. Not burning alive when the sun decides to make for a warmer afternoon car ride home than I intended. Here are a few in different price points.
