The Tuckernuck dress is gorgeous, but for $795, the pattern should match where the seams meet. (My mother was a Home Ec teacher, so I’ve been sewing since I was single digits old. And no, escaping her voice in my head 60 years later is apparently not possible. . .)
At least it is lined, ha! (My mom also sews and would say the same thing!)
I thought the same and I am neither a seamstress nor did I have any in my family. As-is, the broken pattern feels sloppy – not what I’m looking for if I’m going to drop the better part of a grand on a piece, period.
FYI – Dana Milbank is he, not she.
re: having it together, it hasn’t happened for me yet. There are periods where things feel more together, but most often its just trying not to forget things. There’s just always too much to do. You aren’t alone!
The older I get, the more I think “having it together” is a myth and I should be shooting for “doing what I can with the energy/ability I have in this season.” Some days/weeks every thing is going smoothly and I have lots of bandwidth for small bumps; some days/weeks I’m dealing with school drama, SpED child complications, and a 10 year old who is having horrible nightmares and sleeping on the floor of our room.
How many people can pay $795 for a dress? Can we have more realistic suggestions and options?
I just want to point out that this isn’t a “what to wear to the Kentucky Derby” post, just a selection of stuff Belle has bought or found interesting. Let her be excited about an expensive dress she likes.
This blog is full of extremely realistic selections in middle price points. The things I post here reflect my real spending habits and real budget, which is usually in the $100-$200 category. There are no designer bags priced like used cars or $600 face creams. I have turned down multiple paid partnerships this year because there was no world where I was going to recommend the product because it was out of my budget. I often felt like the only blogger who wasn’t trying to convince you that the $750 high sport pants were a must have. But sometimes, for special occasions, I splurge on something I might really love for years to come. If the dress works, and is as good as I hope, I will be thrilled to wear it to all four parties/weddings instead of buying four $150-$250 dresses for the same events. I’m sure there will be more moderately priced spring and summer dresses in the coming weeks, because heaven knows I can’t do more than one or two purchases a year in this price point.
Damn! I don’t know that I would “snag” anything for $795!
Hi Belle, the Leo Lin dress is about half the price on Australian websites (I think Leo Lin is an Australian brand). It’s $799 aud so about $560 usd. Not sure if they ship to the US but David Jones is an absolutely legit Department Store (like Nordstrom). The lucinda dress in the same print but beaded all over is stunning! But also $7000 aud…
Thanks for the tip. I have a feeling that with tariffs it would wind up being more. But I appreciate the information, I’ll keep a lookout for next time!
Maison Miru is my go-to for earrings, because I can basically only wear titanium posts now and they have a nice selection of studs and hoops. I really like the flat back of the nap earrings, and have had a few pairs, but fair warning the posts are pretty short and on the smaller earrings, I’ve lost a front or back several times (once washing my hair at the salon, once with a hairbrush, stuff like that). So I stick with hoops now. I hope they work out well for you!
