The Tape Holding My Life Together

Feb 5, 2026

The vagaries of being in session — early mornings, late nights — and traveling across the state each week to visit my daughter on the weekends, have meant that I fall into each day like it was an accident. My existence is currently being held together with tape.  So here are some of the possessions making something that looks like sanity possible.

+ Here in Washington, your ID is also how you open the doors to your office space and to committee rooms.  So if you lose it, lo to you.  Wearing it around your neck is critical.  So this beaded lanyard in various shades of gray and black has been a lifesaver.

+ This Lo & Sons Trinity bag is the best work bag I have ever owned.  I love my OG2 for travel, and for any day when I need to bring extra shoes, lunch or a lot of extras with me.  The nylon OG is my first love, but the leather Trinity is my second husband, the one who fits my life now.  Trinity is more like a briefcase and looks more professional, so it would be a fab graduation gift for a new attorney.

The Trinity is currently sold out, but get on the wait list.  I have the large size.  The small is more like a big purse that holds a 13″ laptop, and would be great for almost anyone.  The large is a bag for someone who needs to carry a 1″ binder, their necessities and has room for two 15″ laptops.  The bag also comes in navy and tan.

+ I drink so much canned water now.  Sadly, the gold lid makes by colleagues think I’m stocking beer.

+ My work desk makeup bag is one of the best makeup bags I’ve ever owned.  It’s $15, durable, and the perfect essentials-only size.  I also like that I can see into the bag easily, so no searching for concealer when I need to reapply.

+ I’ve worn a version of Kate’s updo since I spotted it 13 years (!!!) ago.  It’s an easy one to master, and I’ve put my own spin on it (which I may post a tutorial for when session is over).  Just add dry shampoo and a little work with a teasing comb makes it look stellar.

+ This moisturizing mask for some pre-bedtime skincare.

+ It rains in Olympia.  A lot.  So I brought my favorite rain jacket, which has never gotten so much wear.

+ These Anyday glass dishes that allow me to reheat my leftovers at work without winding up with that microwaved quality that can make next-day lunches no fun.

+ Finally, these Rag & Bone Miramar sweatpants jeans are the best for the plane.  I love wearing them.  I also love that they look like jeans since I often run into elected officials and lobbyists at the airport.

How are you carrying your lunch in the bag? Are you bringing in leftovers, with leak potential or prepackaged options. I carry leftovers from home, which means some days I have to many bags. Not soups, but I worry about seals getting breached. A little olive oil has a lot of spread potential.

Question- how heavy is the briefcase? I have been carrying a boat and tote because my briefcase is SO heavy (and I need to walk from parking every day). I am looking for a lighter option!

I’ve had two laptops in it, and I don’t find it to be as heavy as other leather bags I have owned. I do swap the strap out for my Lo and Sons OG strap though, because the strap it comes with is too thin.

There is no video/tutorial for the low chignon. Is there a way to access it?

I got the bag based on your rec and con confirm it is the best! I too swapped the strap for a wider nylon type strap.

I have a large OG that is nearly 10 years old and still looks almost new. I travel for work a lot and just got the smaller OG2. They are so functional and well made. Been staring at the trinity and might have to just go for it.

My OG2 looks brand new after several years. The movement of the zipper eliminated the thing I hated about the old bag (getting your laptop out was a chore) or else I would still have my 11 year old one, and I bet it would still look new.

I have a 17″ laptop – any work bag recommendations? My lo & sons OG2 doesn’t accommodate my laptop and after using a Lo & sons bag for over a decade I am bereft and don’t know where to go for a work bag.

Would love a post on what you keep in your desk makeup bag! I feel like I always have either too much (I blame magazines for leading me to believe i would be jetting from my desk to a fancy event more often than I actually do) or too little (where does the makeup actually GO during the day?).
