Three Ways: To Wear Black Pants

Jan 20, 2026

On the one hand, it feels like everything goes with black pants. On the other hand, it’s easy to fall into a rut and feel like you’re living in fashion Groundhog’s Day. So let’s talk about my three favorite outfits to wear with black pants.

Blazer // Blouse // Flats // Earrings // Laptop Clutch

Monday.  This is my navy and black look.  And yes, navy and black do go together.  This look is inspired by Keri Russel’s character in The Diplomat, because she loves a silky shirt with a suit.  It’s a classic look that bridges the gap between relaxed and professional.

Also, the color blocking here helps balance the blue and black.  All blue on top, all black on bottom just creates a nice visual.

I love my silk Vince blouse, but I know the price is a bit nuts.  LilySilk makes a similar shirt for <$200, and it has great reviews.  They’re also having a sale right now.

As for the accessories, I added these phenomenal earrings from Madewell.  I love the enamel inlay, and the simple wire drop.  And this laptop clutch lets me take a notepad and chapstick and a few extras to meetings without carrying a bag.

As for styling, this outfit needs lip color.  I like a berry lip color, but red is also great.  I wear my hair up in Olympia because of the humidity, so I have no other hair suggestions for this.

Blazer // Shoes // Earrings // Watch // Laptop Bag

Wednesday. A simple ivory jacket is such a pretty look.  I have a similar jacket that looks incredible with any professional separates.   This option from Karen Millen is on deep discount, but the sizing is small, so I recommend this Old Navy.  (In fact, I might like the Old Navy one better.)

Underneath this, you can wear whatever you like.  I like this cotton muscle tee from Quince, they also silk blend option.  I just prefer a sleeveless option for ease of movement.

For the accessories, I love this watch from March Hare.  It’s delicate and minimal, and light on the wrist.  Also, this bag.  I have nothing but good things to say about this bag.  It’s a very pretty, professional looking work bag with every pocket and extra you need.

T-Shirt // Sneakers // Earrings // Tote Bag

Friday. These pants are comfortable enough to wear on the plane.  I often wear them on Fridays, so I can just change shirts and head to the airport.  I like this thicker t-shirt from AYR is a great replacement for sweatshirts.  It’s so heavy and comfortable.  It’s the t-shirt you could have bought in 2000.  I like it for four-season wear.

For the accessories, I like a statement sneaker.  These silver ones from Sam Edelman are fantastic.  I also like Gola mules, they’re a 90s throwback.  I also like an olive tote, it gives a little bit of color without being a big pop from red or orange.  But if you want a little more color, Coach makes their Brooklyn tote in a great plum color.  I also like the light blue color of the Brooklyn bag.
