The Find: Black Work Pants

Jan 20, 2026

I made a mistake. After three years working from home, I had built my entire wardrobe around the ability to wear jeans every day. So when I had to go back to the office earlier this month, I was confronted with the harsh reality that I had very little to wear.

To get ready for RTO, I tried on every outfit in my closet. Over the years, I had collected so many black pants. Once I removed the pairs that didn’t fit, I was left with two pairs that needed to be hemmed for flats. Having no time to get that done before I departed, I needed a pair of black pants that 1) fit well and were comfortable, 2) were already hemmed for flats, and 3) didn’t break the bank.

These Editor pants in the Wide Leg Mid-Rise Twill style are great.  They’re comfortable over the course of a long day.  They wear well and look much more expensive than their $88 price tag.  And they come in three lengths, and the regular is the perfect length for flats on my body.

Also, I love a tab front pant.  It lays flatter than a snap front pant, which allows your blouses to lay flat.  And they left the belt loops, so you can add a belt if you want, but with the tab, you don’t need one.

I love these pants so much, that I bought the matching blazer to make a suit.  And I am buying the pants in two more colors to pair with blazers I already own.  So if you need a pair of work pants for occasional in office days or a pair that you can wear when you travel, try these.

The Editor Pants! These make me nostalgic for my years wearing Editor Pants in my first job out of college. I will say these look nicer than the iteration I wore, and their cost has doubled in the past 20+ years.

I am really enjoying wearing the Quince wide-legged cropped pants. They feel great and look pretty good also. I have them in black and eggplant.

EXPRESS still makes work pants? That work. Forge the 2016 throwbacks, that’s taking it back to 2006 for me. I liiiiveeddd in Editor pants on working on the Hill.

I came here to say the same about Express’ Editor pants – the throw back but they were (and are?) so good!
