Welcome to summer where damn near nothing in your professional closet is a good choice for the weather. What do we do for summer work fashion? We do our best. And this look is classic, sophisticated and ready for your professional office.

If you like a black and white color palette, don’t sleep on Olivia Miller’s easy summer work outfits (caution: vid with music). Today, we’re recreating this one that feels like it’s ready to strut down Fifth Avenue. Let’s go.
Sweater // It’s not often that I go searching for a piece and I find exactly what I’m looking for. This Aritzia Approach Cardigan is a piece I own in another color way. It has a great, heavy-feeling material that is still light enough to wear in summer. It’s also very soft. I’ve found it runs a little small, so I sized up to make sure the buttons didn’t pucker. It also comes in a long sleeve version.
Looking for a similar style? Ann Taylor has a short sleeve cardigan with black trim in the same look. Want a more modern style with a dash of trend? This Frame Sailor Sweater is so chic with a statement collar. Plus-size? Eloquii has a similar style in long sleeve.
Pants // With the slim-fitting cardigan, you want a slightly fuller pant for balance. This pleated Effortless Pant from Aritzia is a great complement. WHBM has a similar style.
If you don’t love pleat-front pants (which are a tough style for a lot of us), Nordstrom has a flat front wide leg style. Prefer a slimmer style? I would wear a skinny or straight style with this look because it’s a little too slim. But for a trouser leg style, Ann Taylor’s side zip pant is one of my very favorite pieces.
Plus-size? Land’s End has a crepe wide leg in a light ivory. This pant also comes in petite and tall.
Accessories // Let’s start with this bag. A great work bag is such a must-have for any woman who goes into the office. For a sophisticated option, this DeMellier Hudson Satchel is a total stunner. It’s in a sub-designer price point (high three figures), but with all the style you expect from something twice the price.
Looking for a lower priced style? Lo & Sons has a really fantastic leather bag for $350. So many pockets and great organization. It would be a fantastic lawyer-bag or travel bag. Need something that is lighter to carry? CalPak’s Haven tote is one of the best.
For the shoes, I picked these Naturalizer pumps. Because, ladies, if I have to wear heels, I want >3″ and I want support. I need support. My midlife feet cannot take the high heel beating they took in my younger years. Need a flat? These C. Paravano flats come in so many colors, and the open back style is perfect for summer.
Pavoi makes lovely statement hoops. These croissant style earrings are a great look for <$15. I own two pairs from this line and they’re a great alternative to your daily driver earring at an affordable price point.
Finally, this Monica Vinader bracelet is 50% off. I snapped it up instantly. I love the mix of link styles.
Styling // The simple pick here is a red lip; I’d like to do something different. I think a punchier cheek color with a rosy-nude lip would also be nice. It would really brighten and bring life and fun to the makeup.
Choose your hair style based on the look you want. If you want ultimate sophistication, I would wear hair up with a French Twist pin. I would want something more relaxed, so I think my every day style would work here. I love a volumized hot roller look. So snap up this volume spray and my favorite curlers.
