Wednesday Outfit: Nancy Meyers for Spring

May 14, 2025

It’s still chilly here. I’m not complaining though. I have become extremely averse to hot weather. I want to go for walks and wear pants and light layers and not sweat through my clothes. Maybe I am getting old, but 60 and sunny is great. So here is an outfit for not-so-warm days or days that start out cool in the morning and finish hot.

This image from Pinterest (once again with no discernible origin) captures that beachy vibe in an approachable, wearable way. The sweater is great for cooler weather, and easy to drape over the shoulders once the weather warms. Here’s how to recreate it.

Sweater // The sweater in the photo is Jenni Kayne. The knits are lovely, but the price is just not defensible when you have a toddler who is usually sticky. I chose this boxy Everlane cardigan instead. This Quince cardigan is also a great pick.

Whatever sweater you choose, if you also find tucking a cardigan in to be problematic, there is another solution. This rubber band trick works well. If the rubber band makes it too short, you can chain two together.

Under-Layer // I didn’t post one in the photo, but an under layer is probably necessary. There are many ways to go here. The easiest would be a v-neck tee. A v-neck linen top would be a bit dressier. This gauze top is also nice. Choose something light in color and material, unless you want to be very dressy, in which case choose this silk tank.

Pants // We talked about drawstring pants a week ago. When choosing the pants, choose a pair with a tie made in the same fabric as the pants. These LL Bean pants are a great choice in a chic oatmeal color. Old Navy has a similar pair in an inclusive size range for about half the price.

Shoes // This is the summer of gold accented sandals. These Madewell ones are my favorite. Dolce Vita makes a similar sandal that has a gold toe ring detail. Target makes a similar style for a very affordable $20.

Bag // Gosh, this Clare V Pot de Miel bag is incredible. So unique and beautiful. It’s a statement all on its own. A bit spendy though. This straw crescent bag from Amazon has some similar vibes. And if you need a crossbody, this J.Crew Factory bag is a steal.

Accessories // I have long admired the Foundrae pendants that I see on so many cool girl bloggers. They’re chunky and pretty and effortless. These Local Eclectic charms have a similar vibe for about 1/7th the price. I chose this Qu’Hier Coin and this Amulet charm.

I also added this layered herringbone chain look from Amazon. And I couldn’t forget these medium gauge oblong hoops that are a bargain at $14.

Finally, the look needs sunglasses. I like these angular frames from Ray-Ban. The darker tortoise color adds contrast to the pale outfit.

Styling // It’s not my look (see: bangs), but the slicked back, fresh-from-the-pool bun works here. To get yours slicker and smoother, a boar bristle brush and a sleek stick will get you there. I would also add bronzer to the cheeks; this one gives contrast and SPF.

I couldn’t find the exact image, but I’d bet money it’s from Marlien Rentmeester. She has a blog at lecatch.com that’s a great source of inspiration!

Hi – I love the sleek look but I think you inadvertently linked the boar bristle brush twice. Can you post the link to the sleek stick?
