Last week, I posted a business casual outfit with a blazer and a wide leg pair of jeans. Several of you reached out to say that you need more outfits like that, outfits that are casual but also work appropriate. So let’s dive right in with a breezy outfit that’s great for a more casual work environment.

Once again, this inspiration photo was found on Pinterest, and once again, it does not tell me who the photo belongs to. So if you know, leave the name in the comments. I can always use more stylish women to follow on social media.
What I love about this outfit is the effortless light color palette and the fact that it would be easy to wear in almost any weather. I also love that I can wear it to work, to brunch, or to my toddler’s music class without issue. (Yes, I wear white pants around Sloane. Yes, sometimes I regret it. But that’s what stain stick is for.)
The Sweater // This chunky ribbed sweater feels less prissy and more modern than a simple tan cardigan. I love the ribbed texture and the slightly oversized shape. Searching for something identical is best done in September, not March though. But I found this incredible, sale-priced Reiss cardigan with a similar shape and a wide trim, so the edges always lay flat and look perfect.
Looking for something less spendy? The Gap has you covered with their affordable cotton v-neck cardigan. Need this look to be a bit more professional? Try this collarless Aritzia lady jacket or this linen blazer from Quince.
The Jeans // I’m going to be wearing a lot of white and ivory denim this spring. It feels more stylish than basic blue denim. Think about your favorite outfit with jeans, now think about it with a white or ecru jean, I bet it feels just a bit more refined.
Need a white jean with a slightly wide leg? Madewell has my favorite pair. I love the ankle length for wearing with flats. This pair also comes in tall, petite and plus. There’s really no reason to look anywhere else.
The Tank // The inspiration photo has a little bit of lace peeking out, and I love this subtle hint of raciness. I just bought a lace trim tank from Target, and it quickly became my favorite thing for wearing under v-neck sweaters. If you really want to up the textural vibes, try a lace trim silk tank. Also, if you need a wider strap, this Style & Co. tank accommodates a “real” bra.
The Shoes // I wanted to love the relaxed loafer here, but it felt heavy for spring. Yet, a sandal felt too summery. So I chose these fantastic horse-bit mules from J.Crew Factory. I need a non-sneaker, non-sandal shoe for spring, so these <$50 mules were a must for my wardrobe.
The Bag // A navy bag felt like an inspired choice here. Black darkens the look too much. Tan is too matchy. Red feels a bit too bold for such a subtle palette. But navy, navy is just right. This Anne Klein bag is absolutely steal at $35. It comes in other colors, but this navy is the best one (though the pale green spring jade might be second). Prefer a crossbody? Quince has a flap-style suede option.
The Styling // For the jewelry, I went with Kendra Scott’s in-line initial necklace. We bought these for the daughters of some friends this Christmas, and they’re beautiful and chic. I also love the dangle drop earrings from Monica Vinader (currently on sale).
And you can’t go wrong with a chic, but affordable pair of sunglasses. One of my colleagues could afford any sunglasses on the shelf, but she still wears these $15 ones most days.
With neutrals, you need lip and cheek color to bring life to the face. I like this cream blush from Merit in Apres. It goes on very pink but turns a bit more subtle when blended. I also love Merit’s lip liner and gloss duo. They sent me the new shade Biarritz to try and it’s the perfect rosy-mauve for those of us who want color, but not color.
As for the hair, I like the low chignon if you want it to look more sophisticated and dressed up. If you want it to look more casual, wear it down.

Such helpful styling notes! Thank you!
So good! And agree – this business casual look is the type of outfit I’m wearing to work most often (non-profit in Kansas City).

FYI: The GAP sweater option is half off right now
I love everything about this look. More of this!
