I have a big work trip coming up, and I wanted a relaxed suit to wear to the office. A skirt seemed a bit too formal for sitting around the office, so I wanted something a bit more relaxed. I also didn’t want black or navy, so I was excited when I found an affordable suit that checked all of those boxes.
This Open Edit Icon Blazer ($79) runs a little big. The size guide puts me in a medium, but I bought the small, and it’s perfectly relaxed. And the color is just perfect for injecting a modern spring hue, without being too pastel for the office. The suit also comes in three other neutral colors.
Want to pull off the perfect push up sleeve? Try a set of sleeve garters. Jaime has a video explaining how they work.
These Open Edit Icon Pants ($69) are very comfortable, thanks to an elastic waist. They also have a nice drape to them, and despite the pleats, aren’t too 1980s.
I bought the Open Edit Tailored Vest ($69) to go with this suit. Will I love it? I don’t know yet, I’m waiting for it to be delivered. I’ll like the three-piece suit look for women, so I hope so. If not, I’ll choose a simple black v-neck shell, like this one from Anne Klein.

Fantastic color.
I can remember wearing vest-cut things in shirting material in the 1990s. I felt straight out of Law & Order (the OG).
I have these pants in two colors, and I really enjoy them! They are flattering and hold up great. Now I need this pretty slate blue (and the matching jacket!).
This is a great color – subdued but still brings a color punch. I actually like the styling of the blazer with those pants in the first photo… ?
Me too. I was hoping they had a blouse the same color so I could work a monochromatic look.
There are several shirts, not really blouses, on the website in the same color
Would love to see some styling ideas for spring and summer with these suiting pieces.
Did you keep the Theory suit that you posted a little while back? How do the colors compare?
I exchanged it for the navy. I loved the color, but I realized that I needed a good quality neutral suit. The colors are similar, the Open Edit has more of a blue undertone.
Kate Hudson wore a similar boxy blue (but more cobalt) in Episode 5 of Mindy Kaling’s new Netflix Show, Running Point: https://www.glamour.com/story/kate-hudson-running-point-wardrobe
Could you maybe do a post about silk shells for under suit jackets? I’ve tried buying a few from Donna Karan, some Nordstrom brands, and one from JCrew but they’re either too matronly (arm holes ridiculously huge?) or the fabric is terrible. Can you provide any hints for how to find a better-quality, modern but still simple shell if online shopping?
