Earlier this year, I watched a documentary about over consumption and its impact on the environment. Seeing the mounds of clothing washed up on the beaches in Ghana (millions of pieces per year, in fact) made me reconsider how I shop and how I make recommendations on this blog. Add in realizations about the emotional reasons for my own consumption and my own financial goals, and I am having a serious conversation with myself about what this fashion blog looks like in 2025.
To reduce my own consumption, I’ve been thinking about how I shopped in the 1990s and early 2000s before I was one click away from new purchases. And as I considered which items would make the Best of 2024 list, I narrowed it down to just the eight pieces that were well-worn, well-made and well-loved. I wanted the words “Best of” to really mean something and to reflect the pieces that I will still be wearing and loving months or (likely) years from now. And no Best of list would have been complete without these pajamas.
These J.Crew Dreamy Cotton pajamas were like a gift I gave myself every time I put them on.
I’ve posted about them four (or more) times this year, so I’m struggling to tell you anything I haven’t said before, so I’ll just repeat myself. The material is thick and durable. They’re soft and cozy. I am still wearing J.Crew pajamas I bought in 2021, and they’re just starting to show a little wear after significant use, so I assume these will also last 3+ years before they need to be replaced.
How do they compare to the Nordstrom Moonlight pjs that I wore for years? First, the material is thicker and maintains its opacity significantly longer. Second, they just feel more luxurious than the current iteration of the Nordstrom pjs.
If you need a gift for an in law or a friend — or frankly, yourself — this is it. I now own three pair, and they’re the only pajamas I want to wear.

Thank you for your mindful approach to consumption. I am thinking about my own family’s purchasing in the same terms (emotional, financial, environmental). I can tell it’s going to be a journey, but you gotta start somewhere!
Are they good for people with might sweats (hello perimenopause)? Thanks!
They also make a poplin cotton version that I wear in summer and really like. If I was having night sweats, I would wear these instead. https://shopstyle.it/l/cj2hT
Appreciate your careful thoughts about consumption, shopping, and fashion. The intersection of these is sometimes hard to balance. In that spirit, suggestions for future posts: revisit past favorite pieces (shirt, skirt, dress, purse, etc.) from years ago to see how you can update for styling now and/or bring back 2 ways (or more) postings showing versatility of options for each. Wishing you and your family and friends a lovely, happy, and restful holiday season! Safe travels wherever you are.
A great suggestion especially given that it seems like some of those late 2000s and early 2010s trends and pieces are coming back, baby!
I would love to see some sustainable companies featured. I’m really curious about Oliver Charles seaweed/Yak mix sweaters. I clicked on something in Instagram and have a million promotions, so I wonder if they’d do something with affiliate programs (because I know this is a source of deserved income for you). If there were similar kinds of products that could be reviewed I’d be enthusiastic for it. Or, if you have recommendations for like-minded people like yourself that are concentrated in that space that we could follow.
Any suggestions for cotton PJs for tall ladies? The 29 1/2″ inseam brings back awkward middle school “high waters” memories before I discovered pants that came in longer inseams haha
Do these have pockets? It doesn’t look like it, and I definitely prefer even PJ pants with pockets.
How is JCrew sizing these days? Haven’t shopped there in years and am lost on sizing.
Love the thoughtfulness around fashion and consumption. Please take us on that journey with you!
I’m wearing a 6/8 and am comfortably in these PJs in a M.
